I posted these pictures and descriptions on Facebook and received lots of interest and comments. So thought I would post here. This local auto enthusiast location https://pasteiners.com/ has a weekly car show that I’ve attended several times in the past with my Roadster. They were able to start back up a few weeks ago. Yesterday the weather cooperated so I took the new Gen 3 Coupe over for the first time. This event typically has the usual collections of classics, restomods, hot rods, etc. But also often has high end cars not often seen at other events. Including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Lotus, etc. Even an occasional original Cobra. Also since in SE Michigan, every once in a while see a pre-production version of upcoming cars. Saw the Dodge Hellcat before it went public. A Mustang GT350 with the Voodoo, although he was reluctant to open the hood. Yesterday a second-generation Ford GT (the newest version) parked close enough to my Coupe that I could get a picture of the two cars together. Cool! Talked to the owner for a bit. Nice guy. Said he was a lifetime GM guy so he was interested to hear the story about the Daytona. Didn’t explain how he was able to get the Ford GT. And I didn’t ask. A first-generation Ford GT was there as well. Both pictures below.
BTW, after attending several events now and talking to a bunch of people over three days at the Detroit Autorama, am finding just how few people know what the Daytona Coupe is. Probably less than 50%. Certainly doesn't have the instant recognition of the Cobra. I'm Ok with it. Just interesting. Some guy yesterday was walking by telling his buddies it was a Ferrari. UPS guy made a delivery to my place a few days ago. The garage door was open and I was working outside. He put my package in the garage and said "Nice Corvette." :p
One other somewhat related note while I’m posting. Lots of discussion about the sound level in the Coupe. Driving to the event yesterday includes about a 10-mile run on the interstate. An early morning drive on a holiday meant almost no traffic. So, while cruising comfortably at 80 mph in 6th, a recently paved smooth lane, the Gen 3 Coyote turning 2300 – 2400 RPM, just for grins opened the dB meter app on my iPhone. It showed a steady 94-95 dB. Not a surprise and confirmed why it’s important to wear ear plugs. Certainly way higher than the typical 70 or so in a DD. Note this was on the default A scale, which is the most commonly used. I’ve used the same app while cruising in the Roadster. The sound pressure level is similar if not slightly higher. But the components of the sound are different, including traffic noise, wind noise, etc. None of this is surprising or disappointing to me. Just goes with the territory and should be dealt with accordingly.
