Hello experts. There doesn’t seem to be a way to secure the Speedo cable to the back of the Speedo gauge. It slips on fine but there’s no retainer. Any suggestions?

There should be a finger nut to retain it.

Look along the cable to where ever it goes through to the engine compartment.

In the past what we used to do is slit the metal end of the cable with one or two cuts so it would slip over the thread of the guage and then add a small worm clamp to hold them together.
Hope that helps.

Seriously...FFR supplies you with a speedo, that still uses a cable? Perhaps it's a donor gauge?

Some cables used a retaining clip at the gauge end, rather then a thread-on type retainer. Some donor clips were a white plastic that had a tab on them you pushed on to release the cable from the gauge. Perhaps it could have slid down the cable away, so it's not obviously visible?

Pretty clear he says it's a Mk3. My Mk3 has a Autometer mechanical speedo.

If it is a MK III it could still be a base kit build in which he may have the Autometer guages and those were cable driven with components from your donor.

He mentions FFR supplied it, in the title of his post, but no make. I took it to mean it came with the kit. Perhaps FFR sold gauges as an option back in those days?

I have a MK3.1 base kit, ordered late in 2008, and it didn't come with any gauges, and I don't recall FFR even offering them as an option. I ended up ordering them from Mark at Breeze.

FFR offered Autometer or Stewart Warner gauges with the Mk1, 2, 3 and 3.1 along with the option of reconfiguring Donor Mustang gauges. All used a speedo cable. The wacky Transport Canada regulations may have not allowed them to be included with a kit purchase.
