View Full Version : Wilwood remote bias adjuster - will this location work?

One of the challenges of being a first-time builder is that I sometimes don't fully understand the downstream impact of certain choices. Sometimes doing something, or putting something somewhere, seems like a great idea until I realize down the road that it interferes with something else. In order to hopefully avoid that, I'd like to run this idea past all the experienced builders here to make sure that this doesn't cause me a problem down the road.

I'd like to install the Wilwood remote brake bias adjuster knob, so that I can fine-tune brake bias once the car is on the road without having to open up the access panel in the top of the DS footbox to do so. Space on either side of the bias adjustment bar is tight, so I've ordered the Tilton 90 deg. adapter (https://tiltonracing.com/product/90-degree-coupler-assembly/), which will go on the PS side of the adjustment bar. The cable would then loop over and connect to the knob, which I'd like to install under the steering shaft by my knees. The knob is ~1-1/4" tall so by placing it here it will be easily accessible, but would only protrude down about 1/2" below the 3/4" tubes that the mounting bracket would sit on. This seems like the perfect combination of easily accessible and hidden from view. However, I know that the DS footbox area gets really crowded down the road once the fuse panel and all the wiring is in, and I want to make sure this isn't going to be a problem for me later on. Any and all feedback is welcome.

Thanks,
John

Kinda hard to reach, you certainly can't when belted in. There is plenty of room on the dash for it.

This is where I put mine in my coupe

Thank you both. No offense intended, but having the knob prominently displayed on the dash isn't the aesthetic I'm going for. The car will be primarily a street car with a few track days thrown in, so I'm guessing that the adjustment knob will be used initially to dial in balance, and occasionally after that if I change suspension setup but isn't going to be used as much as if it was primarily a race car, so I'm OK with it being a bit less convenient if it's a bit more hidden. Am I making a big mistake thinking of it this way? I figure if I can make tweaks between track sessions, or if I have to pull over on the street to tweak it, I'm still better off than if I didn't have the adjustment knob at all.

I doubt highly you will make any adjustments between track sessions. Once its set you pretty much won't need to do much with it.

Oh Yeah? I gave mine three clicks.........once........about four years ago.

Haven't adjusted mine since the initial installation and couple minor tweaks through the access panel very early on. Now in the fourth driving season. Adjusting them on the fly is cool I guess. But much ado about nothing for a street cruiser. My opinion. If you really want it, putting it down under the dash like you showed is a good compromise.

This location has worked well for me, however, haven't used it at all since initial set up.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I decided to move ahead with the location that I had mocked up. Here's the mounting bracket all fabbed up and ready for powder coat.

The knob assembly will get mounted to the bracket with 6-32 rivet nuts after powder coat, and the bracket will also get mounted to 6-32 rivet nuts in the 3/4 frame tubes so I can remove it down the road if getting access to that space is needed.
