Due to an oil leak, I need to change out the pwr steering rack with a new, identical one.
Anyone done this?

Yep, did it last month. Just replaced with a MasterPro unit from O'Reilly, but you can get other brands from just about anywhere (AutoZone, Amazon, etc.). Take your old one out first for the core exchange.

I did mine a few months ago. It's not that difficult to replace, but you will need to do an alignment afterwards. Tool wise, you'll only need the normal socket/wrench stuff and possibly a pry bar. You may want to get a tie rod end separator tool, and an alignment punch. Not necessary but I already had them and found them helpful and quicker. The only difficult part was getting the bolts to align all the way back through the brackets. But the punch quickly resolved that. Although, it can be a little bit of a puzzle twisting the new one back through to bolt up. Make sure you have replacement crush washers for the hoses and cotter pins i f yours takes them. In all, it's roughly a 1 to 2 beer job first time doing it. LOL

Oh, one last thing. The old unit will have fluid in it and leak. I used the plugs from the new unit to cap off the hose connections, and had a wire/hook set up to hold the existing hoses up and out of the way where they wouldn't drip either.
