295/45/18 too big for the front?

Would those tyres/wheel size be too big for the front (with 28/12/18 MT Sportsman tyres)?

Too big in what way? Are you using fenders? Do you have power steering? Looks?

I have no power and 275 fronts and find them just fine. I see many '35 trucks (and some 33's) have much wider, like 335!

I would use power steering and bike fenders...

The FFR front bike fenders will not fit 295s without major mods (i.e. splitting down the middle and widening significantly)

Here's the FFR fenders with 245s (18) on the front. 255s can probably squeak in with more trimming.

FWIW, I have 245/45-18 fronts and they fill up the full fenders pretty well.

Thanks all for the input, maybe need to put skinny tyres in the front!!

Rear: 28x12R18 front 27x8R17... would look more like a drag-racer than....

I wish there was some software that could assist in visualising these things!!

I'm running 305/35-20 in the rear.

The calculator I linked above has a graphic that rescales when you when you enter new data, and it shows 2 different tires/wheels in one screen so you can get an idea of the relative sizes. Also, I found these wheel visualizers helpful: http://www.billetspecialties.com/store/wheel-visualizer/ or one at http://www.newstalgiawheel.com with more brands.

I don't want to oversell it though - it's not perfect. It's pretty tricky to setup/use, couldn't stripe over the body as you'd expect, and just runs on windows. Using vmware fusion on my mac won't work, you have to use Bootcamp, which is a pain. I remember tire sizes were odd - you couldn't just say 335/35 for example.

So just realised that especailly for the rear you need to know how wide the body is and the IRS axle, anyone knows that?

this would determine the spacing of the wheel...

The manual has a section on max size tires including backspace, it is accurate and applicable for all 3 FFR supplied rear ends including IRS. I have 315/30R18 with 6" backspace with fenders and just clears body so 6.25 would not work for example

I have 20" x 10" wheels with a 5" backspace on a Gen 1 '33 with the 2015 IRS. I don't have the measurements handy, but I have a minimum 1" clearance between the body and tire sidewall. The FFR wheel size recommendations for the IRS weren't in the manual when I bought mine, so I had to wing it. HTH, Keith

The gen1 manual provided specs for max size wheels/tires with and without fenders. There wasn't any info about which rear ends were applicable at all. Called Tony and he explained that all 3 rears that they sell are the same width so the size recommendations are independent of which rear.

the 3G manual hasn't been updated from the previous versions, Only shows the rear solid axle:

Information is separated into groups of wheels/tires used on Hot Rods without fenders and those with
fenders, and it is also important to note that this information is based on using a standard width
(59.25”) Ford 8.8” solid axle.

and information on the wheels with fenders:

Front maximum wheel width and Backspacing: 9.00” with 5.50” Backspace
Front maximum tire width: 255mm
Rear maximum wheel width and Backspacing: 11.00” with 6.00” Backspace
Rear maximum tire width: 315mm
Front / Rear maximum tire diameter: 25.7”

But it would be good to have to body width and axle (IRS) width confirmed... Fenders can be easily modified to fit, is my impression...
