View Full Version : Inner Seat Belt install
How is the inner seat belt attached to the tab? The manual says to drill a 1/2” hole in aluminum. How is the gap filled between the tab and the transmission aluminum side?

The space between the chassis mounting tab and the trans tunnel aluminum is normally very tight on the Mk4. That's why they show drilling through the aluminum and putting the mounting nut inside the trans tunnel. The manual shows putting the lap harness on the seat side of the mounting tab. Typically isn't room for it on the inside. If you have more room than normal, you could put the harness mount on the other side. But regardless, shouldn't be much room there. Especially once insulation and carpet is installed. How much of a gap do you have?

Easiest way I found was to drill a hole just big enough to install the bolt from the transmission tunnel and then simply put a rubber plug in it in case I ever needed to get back at it. I thought about running my seat heater wires through the holes, but decided to put those holes further towards the back of the car where the sheet metal flares out.
