I have a pair of sn95 uprights that could use some beautification... Will media blasting hurt the hub/bearing? Or do I need to somehow protect it? Thanks!

Ounce of prevention baby... always protect machined surfaces.

I agree, here's the upright, what would you do to protect the hub?

As long as you don't lose the cap, no problems. Media blasting won't do any damage to the steal surfaces.

I'd try packing the back side to keep the media out of the seal area. Anybody who has run cars in the sand knows how invasive that stuff can be.

I soda blasted mine. Less aggressive and great results

I am confused.

Are you going to use the hub with the bearing that is already installed, or are you going to replace the bearing with a fresh one ???

Personally, I would install a new bearing, and since that will require the hub to be disassembled, it will be easy to protect the bearing surfaces. And the blasting job will be able to reach areas that would be otherwise inaccessible.

This is my thought too. New hub/bearing. I have had great success w/ these;

I didn't realize how simple it is to pull the bearing, thought it required special equipment!

Thanks for the heads up, Amazon has them for $45 shipped. 36 mm socket, FYI.

And when you get them from Amazon, they most likely won't slide onto the spindle.

I've blasted a bunch of delicate suspension parts, like spindles & hubs, with walnut shells.
