View Full Version : door hinge seal
Has anybody come up with a seal for the rear door hinge on the 33 hotrod? It seems a lot of air and noise could come through that area. I've sealed up the area in front of the door hinge with just a rubber membrane. The problem with the rear is the hinges move so you'd need a boot of some style or maybe seal-it?

I have been thinking about this since I cut the holes for the hinge and have come up with several ideas that I will pass along. The first is to find a door sweep with an aluminum frame (Amazon has all types and sizes) and cut 2 pieces to fit the opening one above and one below and then rivet in place. (a similar idea is used on airplanes that have variable sweep wings) The second is to use these foam pieces that I found. Will just cut and glue in place. I actually like the first idea better as I fear the foam will just bend and not return to its original shape. Here is a picture of the foam seals I purchased. They were a staggering $11.00 for all. The seals are for a 1966 Lincoln Continental door hinge. Let me know if you come up with any other ideas! Ray
thanks, I'll check those out. I also have a roll of felt I was thinking about cutting to shape basically what you have the the continental seals.

Here is a picture I found of a F-111 wing seal. If you look closely you will see how it works. They would be real inexpensive and easy to make and I bet they would work great. Something like this one from Amazon. You could paint the aluminum part the color of the car if you desire or polish the aluminum if you want to get really carried away LOL. Ray
