I've ordered a Type 65 kit and am going through engine and tranny options in advance of the kit arriving. My kit order is for a TKO but now am hearing that it doesn't shift very well and has a low RPM ceiling. I'm planning on finding a Gen 2 Coyote F150 engine for a donor and then modifying it a little (might rev north of 7,000).

Could you offer some guidance regarding staying with the TKO or switching to a t56?

Thanks.

Though the TKO is a solid transmission, the T56 is far superior in the shifting department, plus you get that extra gear.
In addition, since the Type-65 has a 95" wheelbase compared to the MK-4's shorter 90", the T56 is a more viable option in that chassis.
From my perspective, if you have owned a car with a 6-Speed you'll never want to own a car with a transmission with fewer gears.
Add in the T56 hydraulic clutch and it sort of seals the deal.

Good Luck & Hope This Helps!

The TKO-600 does not like to shift quickly at higher RPM in it's stock form. However, Liberty Gear can modify that and you can actually purchase a TKO trans directly from Liberty already modified (or send yours to them). http://libertysgears.com/our-products/tremec/

Do you're homework -- the TKO is a good trans but for higher RPM use does need some basic mods to improve shifting. Just depends on how you intend to use your car.
