Gentlemen:
Has anyone changed a clutch in a generation 2 Coupe without pulling the engine. It looks like there is not enough room to get the trans back far enough to clear the bell housing. This is a TKO 600 trans that probably weighs as much as me. It is hard to handle and I don't have acces to a lift. Can I get the trans/bell housing assembly back far enough to clear the clutch. I just finished up this build last summer and have only 150 miles on it. My present clutch is a stock 1993 Mustang unit. I want to replace it as I can smell it with just a small amount of slipping it when I back my car up my driveway. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have explained how it can be done more than a few times. If you do a search you can probably find is. Takes about an hour to get the trans out. Less if you have a lift.

Mr. Levy:
Thank you for your prompt response to my enquiry. I first trried to do a search for this topic with no results. That is why I finally gave up and posted this request. It would be helpful if you could point me to one of your posts on this topic.

OK, maybe someone will put in the FAQ's.
1 get the car as high as you can, lift helps or very tall stands.
drain trans completely
remove starter
Remove driveshaft
Remove shifter handle and boot, remove trans mount completely and let the trans sit on the crossmember then completely remove shifter.
place jack on a board on the rear of the oil pan and take the weight off the trans. Unbolt trans and rotate counter clockwise 90 degrees and remove pulling the rear of the trans over the differential. If you have a live axle you can try unbolting the coilovers to get a little more droop.
If you find that you can not get the input shaft to clear the bell housing you will need to unbolt the bell and drop it out with the trans.

to go back in reverse the order. Please have help.

Mr. Levy:
Thanks for taking the time to give me the real info on the process. It seems that these kinds of subjects are not really mentioned as being important, but you know better. I do have a live axle setup so some of your hints are very much appreciated. And I am going to need some help on this one. Thanks again.
