Hey guys.

Figured it was time to sign in and post that i am currently in the process of building my Gen 3 Coupe. #169.

Currently its been 11 months (delivery was July 1 2019). no major issues as the build goes along. Most of my questions have been answered in this form. Tons of info/pics, thanks goes out to edwardb. His build doc is kinda a bible on how to build a truly awesome Coupe.

Car is ready for gokarting but still waiting for the engine and transmission packaged coming from Craft Performance. Its a 408 with a TKO 600.

My hope is to have it driving and ready for bodywork by winter time (still looking for a local body and paint guy).

As for me... Grew up in Colorado, moved to TX in 2000. Dad was a diesel mechanic and did everything needed to the cars and house. He was a great role model. Plenty of go carts, dirt and street bikes and a bunch of hot Rods thru the years. Been working as a Mechanical Engineer since 2000 for a large Semiconductor Equipment MFG in Austin TX. It was time since becoming a grandpa and my girls have moved out of the house for me to start a new project. So with the wife help the search was on. I have always loved the story behind Mr Shelby and the looks of the Daytona. My wife like the old Datsun Z cars and with some of the same body lines it wasn't too hard to get her on board with building a Daytona.

Again thanks for all those who came before me. Guaranteed to be much harder build if it wasn't for this form and its great info.

Hey Doug, can't wait to hear more and see pics!

Let me know if you need a hand with anything - I'm building a hot rod over in Manor, at gokart stage waiting for stage 2 to arrive mid July.

Welcome Doug!

Your chassis #169 is the neighbor to my Coupe-R which is #170! I’m sure you’re further along with your build than I am though, because I pretty much took the first exit off the “By-the-Book Highway” and have been making modifications left and right ever since. I will be making another update to my build thread soon. I have my engine already but it hasn’t sped up the build process any.

Would love to see pics of your build and hear more about it!

ya sorry about that guys. plenty of pics. working on getting them moved from my phone to the computer.

RoadRacer.. been following your build as well. since we are almost neighbors. I live in Paige but work in Austin, just past the toll road on 290.

Logan and Jon. Ill try to fill you in on my build. I wanted to try to stay as basic as possible. Living in TX the AC was a must so yes it does have the heater and AC package from Factory Five. not sure how much i will be using the heater. Only other creature comfort is power steering. from there its a 3 link, carb motor running on 15 inch wheels.

Been working like a mad scientist on layers of insulation, not really for sound but heat control. Cabin has Lizard skin sound and ceramic, reflective insulation on the engine bay, plus 1-2 layers of insulation on the inside then the carpet. The multi layers are mostly around the firewall and foot boxes. rest of the floor and rear sections are only lizard skin, one small layer of insulation then the carpet.

Been waiting many months for my motor and transmission. hope that the call will come soon, saying the need the final payment and shipping info. fingers crossed.
