View Full Version : Chicago area get-together?

Al_C
06-15-2020, 09:40 AM
We all know there is no LCS, and this would have been my first real opportunity to attend! (Well, with a roadster...) In fact, there isn't much of anything anywhere. I'm dealing with it - mostly.

So, I got to thinking (frequently a dangerous activity), why not have a small get-together somewhere in the Chicago area? Maybe meet for an hour or two on the 26th, 27th, or 28th (when we would have been in Ohio) and/or go on a cruise to nowhere in particular. For me, Saturday AM is out, but the rest of the weekend is possible.

We can abide by the social distancing guidelines, and if we have to, limit the group size (IL may soon go to then next phase, which is groups of 50!).

Opinions? Ideas on location and/or destination? Or, just tell me to avoid these bouts of thinking.

I'm interested! In the red zone on my build. Happy to host at my house in Gurnee. I talk to another builder here in Gurnee but not sure if hes' active on the site.

Al,
Be sure to let Sten know. He'll serve as the social director (a job he is well qualified for ;) ) and can probably round up Dan and Craig, maybe Jay and Chris. Have a good time!

We are in as well.

Not sure how far people want to go? We often enjoy a run up to Knuckleheads in Eagle WI. A biker bar but people up there always enjoy seeing the Cobra.

Also the Mobil in Genoa City, right over the boarder on Rt 12 North of Richmond has Premium gas with NO Ethanol!! We fill up there every time we are anywhere close. And WI is way cheaper than IL.

Another place closer is Hart's Saloon in Hebron, IL. A drive for some but right up the road from Steno. Hebron has a couple other places as well.

We are flexible and wide open to any and all ideas.

Steve and Al,

That sounds like a great plan and I was (closely) thinking the same thing. Not familiar with Knuckleheads but I like it. We could also tack on a short trip north of Eagle to Ottawa Lake Recreation Area , straight up 67, if we want to add some rustic roads. We'd loop back down ZZ to N to Eagle.

As Sten mentioned, I'm going to see whether there are any places to stop for a bite on that loop. Either way, Knuckleheads sounds good.

Just a thought.

Sounds like a fun time!!! I wish I could be in as well however I’m still working on getting legal. The beautiful state of Illinois is requiring me to go through a bonded title process. I sent all my paperwork in last week now it’s a waiting game. Who knows how long this could take because they were closed for two months.
I’m in next time if I’m legal by then and if you guys allow me to bring my truck to run around with cobras

Sten,

I took a test run today, Thursday, to Eagle beginning in Lake Geneva and found the roads to be unkind to my suspension. Hwy 12 up thru 67 need road work.

Steve's ideas to Hebron and/or Genoa City are sounding pretty good. I hope this helps whoever is pulling this together.

Sorry to not be specific, we usually go up 120 to D then over to Townline over to 20 then N and up to LC and North into Eagle on County Rd N.

Hebron and then Genoa City are good with a stop at Herner's Hideaway is a good trip. We could also head out northwest across the back roads to Zenda Tap. Every time we go up there the owner, Jose comes out to see the Cobra. Another biker bar with always a bunch of classic cars as well.

Just some thoughts. We are always open for anything.

Sten or Al-C - are you planing the itinerary?

Once the trip took a northern turn I realized that I was out of my element. The only roads I know in Wisconsin are Interstates. If it were up to me, I'd do a Rt. 66 itinerary in Illinois. I'm fine going north, but you guys know the roads better. I can follow!

September 5th is Open House at Factory Five! Who wants to come with? I’m driving my Roadster!

Sten, sounds like a great time. Count me in if you do make the trip.

I hope all is well. The cruise looked like a lot of fun.

Fire it up and tag along! We’ll have us a convoy!

Ohmsworld, where are you located?

In the city. Ukranian village. West town.

There seems to be some coalescing on the color red or some variation of it.

I look forward to adding some contrast in blue as soon as I am back from paint

I should have joined this forum long ago, just haven't had the time to spend to keep up with it until lately. I wish I'd have know about this event, I'd have been right there with you. On the way to Eagle you may have been within 5 miles of my house in Washington County WI! Hopefully this won't be the last one.

I’m pretty much up for a drive whenever... just got back from a trip to Florida and back! Another 3010 miles on the clock!

Ball is rolling on 7275 so I should be legal in 6-8 weeks.
