View Full Version : How did you route license plate light wiring?

My trunk floor is in and I need to route the license plate wire to from the rear of the chassis up to the rear hoop. The plans show it coming through the carpet by the passenger rear roll bar mount. Do you just drill a hole or is there a better way?
Nothing fancy here:

Thanks Papa. How did you get the wire into the trunk? Looks like a lot of room for cargo in the trunk. Pictures can be deceptive.

I brought it up between the outer and inner panels and then into the trunk:

Hard to see, but similar to the other posts, right along the hinge.

Came up the DS 3/4 tube. Put a plug at the trunk hinge, and a plug at the license plate lite inside the access hole there.

Thank you gentlemen. Lots of options.

I did the exact same as Dave. Just need wire conduit and some rubber grommets.

Pretty much as the others. Put a plug in line just in case I wanted to remove the lid.

I had to disassemble my side wall and run the wires, but I really think this is a great way to keep the trunk floor as clean as possible!
I used one of the stretch grommets from the FFR kit to run my cables, 1 for license plate, 1 for backup camera, 1 for trunk LEDs

I ran it up just forward of the roll bar rear leg. Drill down into the channel below and route it from the open end. Put a plug on the end for a quick disconnect for the tag light.

Likewise. I knew the trunk would be coming off for paint someday in the future. The connector is down by the trunk hinge.
I fed a stiffer piece of small gauge wire from the larger opening in the trunk lid to a hole I had drilled in the inner trunk skin, down near the hinge. Be darn near impossible to feed the electrical wires between the inner and outer trunk skins otherwise. I then attached that wire to the electrical wires, then fished it back up through to the larger opening, where I could then connect the license light wires. I used a connector here as well.
I also pulled a few feet of extra wire through. To prevent the wire from rattling inside the trunk lid, I taped some foam around it in a couple places, then pulled it back down, so the foam would sit between the trunk lid skins. Leave enough slack at the hinge area so the wires aren't stressed when the trunk is opened.
