So have gotten back to the build after a long hiatus and trying to finish it up. I unpacked my vintage Gen 1 Coyote from the crate last weekend, circa March 2013. Question, do I still need to wire in the speed dial box or are the current tuners able to resolve the issues? I plan to tune it on a dyno with SCT, or HP Tuners, or etc., with my buddy who is an expert tuner.

I think I spoke with Ford and Mike Forte, ended up buying the Speed dial. Seems like you set all the dip switches to 1 and you are done. I did have Lund tune me with SCT X4. We did not discuss the Speed Dial.
My understanding was, it prevents the engine stumbling or dying after letting off the throttle coming to a stop.
Not much help, but the route I went.

Some have had success tuning it out. Whenever I built a gen 1 for a customer I put a speed dial in it. My experience was it fixed the stalling issue, period.

For me it was better than having a customer go back and forth with a tuner to fix a problem.

Again, my understanding is some have been successful tuning it out. I would still do it.

PS, Love the gen 1. Great motor, and they run like swiss watch.

Haven't done a Gen 1, so can't answer based on personal experience. But good luck finding the part. M-4209ADPT-A is discontinued and not in stock in multiple places I looked for someone a while back. I seem to recall later tunes from Ford Performance didn't require it. Plus many have reported good luck with a custom tune. Hopefully that's the case.

Thank you gentlemen. Fortunately I have the speed dial, all the parts have been sitting in my AC controlled garage all these years so everything is in good shape. I will go ahead and install it, if I can beg another question, I see the white and green wires go to the computer, I guess the black wire goes to a ground? Does the red wire need a power source?
