Hey guys, I'm getting ready to have my junkyard reared rebuilt. Shop quoted $1,100 in car and $850 out of car. Not gonna use him.. I need some idea of what brand of parts I should request. I'm having new clutch pack, bearings, and any worn stuff as necessary replaced. I don't need bullet proof stuff, just good American made stuff.
Thanks
Can't go wrong using genuine Ford parts. But there are lot's of outfits making good quality parts. You can source parts from Summit Racing or off-road retailers like 4 Wheel Parts or local speed shops. Unless you really know your 8.8 parts, sources like NAPA and other garden variety parts stores may carry lower cost parts with questionable quality. I prefer Moser Engineering for their 8.8 parts: https://www.moserengineering.com/

I used Summit and bought a Ratec kit. (I made sure the bearings were Timken) No issues!

I took a used 8.8 and replaced (using ford parts) the Traction Lok kit, tube end bearings/seals, axles (due to pitting) and gear oil/modifier. Has run without issue for nearly 25,000 miles.

For the gears especially I use only factory Ford gears. There have been many who have said, if using Ford gears you will be able to just swap over the pinion shim. That is by far the trickiest part of doing an 8.8 so feeling good about just reusing what you have is great. I can add one more to the 1000s that the original shim worked out fine. I had a good friend who works as a machinist and who had made up the parts needed to measure for that shim. I used his stuff, did all the measuring, and found that the old shim was perfect. I don't remember what brand bearings I used but I also got a Ratec kit for the shim assortment and seals. I got the gear and all other parts from Summit.

Call Mike Forte. He'll send you every little part you might need for an excellent price. I would suggest Ford parts and Timkin bearings.

Are you doing the replacing? There are some details when setting up a ring and pinion that you do not want to get wrong.
You can destroy a ring and pinion real fast if they aren't set right!
I got all my parts from for the 8.8 from LMR, they were all nice ford racing parts, i dont remember what brand of bearing.
