All;

Looking at options and seeing if there would be interest in someone buying some items from me. Please understand I am in Canada. Love the GTM, enjoyed the build. Spend many hours on this car - body work alone was a feat as most of you are aware. I have corrected all the body flaws. its a 2011, took 8 years to build, has about 100km on it (od - says 19km, as I only just finished that part last fall)
Circumstances are occurring that are possible making a decision on what to do with my GTM. First of all, no one wants to spend a lot of money right now, secondly insurance for GTM's in Canada has taken a dive. My insurance provider is dropping my insurance due to its not a "replica" of another car. Tino on this forum has a post on all of this. Also if you can find insurance it is going to cost a lot. I have a clean record, an older, Ihave a few other vehicles, so no its not because of my record. This car is great and all, but becoming not practical for me to keep. Please don't send me hate messages that I am possibly dismantling a great car.

this is my options.
1) sell complete car - tried, no one seems to want to spend 70-80K (Canadian) 50k US. Plus I have heard I cannot sell a completed car to someone in the US. I don't want to just give it away as I can use a lot of parts indicated below for another project (to me its money in the bank as I wouldn't have to buy these parts again.

2) I am building a 68 Camaro - I can use a lot of parts from GTM, LS3 motor (600hp) and all its goodies, gas pedal, wiring harness & computer, fuel system, coolant overflow system, vintage air system, rad, fans, f5 fan controller, wheel hubs (there is a conversion for this) full brake system, wheels & tires, heat shielding, battery, wiring, stereo, mirrors, back up camera, might be able to use clutch, basically almost everything that was not part of original kit, misc. stuff.

part two of this and reason for this post is I would sell the following: completed body, all paint and items moulded in, G50-03 transaxle with LSD - billet side plate etc., trans cooling system, trans adapter plate, full shift system, full Kooks exhaust, frame and all panels connected, complete custom interior, C5 suspension, all glass, misc. Almost all of VRaptor accessory parts are on my car, GTM specific parts.

If there is interest in buying some of these from me, I can provide pricing. Only if there is enough interest to buy all of the misc. GTM stuff, I would then make the decision to dismantle and part out. Again keep in mind I am in Canada. I am willing to assist in shipping, but large items such as body or the frame would need to be picked up.

Many of the GTMs here in Texas are registered as GT40 replicas. There are more than a few visual likenesses.

Exactly what I was thinking. I believe someone has stated that the windshield may be an exact copy of a GT-40 windshield.

I would be really interested to know if that is true as it seems that getting a replacement windshield from FFR is not easy. I'm still waiting for my windshield as my kit was delivered in January without the windshield.

Dave Smith did say the windshield is exactly the same as a GT40 during one of the Rona 2:00 pm Facebook videos.

Great. Gives everyone a few extra sources for windshields.

GT40 replica for insurance is a no go. Tried a few insurance companies and they all are quick to say no. I guess Canada is cracking down on insurance coverage for select vehicles. But yet my insurance company has no problem insuring my Suzuki hayabusa and cheap too for full coverage.

Not to drift the thread, but not really sure the fact(if it is a fact) that the windshield is exactly the same as a GT-40 helps anyone as far as costs and availability. Probably more advantageous for GT-40 replicas and the real cars that FFR has the GTM as there have been way more GTMs built than original GT-40 and GT-40 replicas. 132 original GT-40s built as opposed to over 500 GTMs.

As far as insurance goes, the GT-40 is WAY more of a recognizable marque than the GTM. Probably always will be thanks to the racing success of the GT-40.

But how many GT-40 replicas are out there? If the windshields are the same then we could ask the replica companies if they use a copy of the original.

Back to the thread, RF Rider try to sell the car complete. While parting it out would probably make you some good profit, it will take awhile. How many people need a frame or body or seats, etc. List it on eBay and Autotrader. Shipping to a buyer should be around $1000. If you can’t sell it complete, uncomplete it. Take something off that is easy for a buyer to replace to skirt the restriction. Or, any US friends that could sell it for you? Maybe Shane on a consignment?

It's tough RD Rider, but I'd sell it complete for cheap. Ignore sunk costs, and realize it's going to be painful. I once had to sell an amazing one-off $90k chassis for $15k on BaT - but it was 2008!

Selling complete at a price the market will pay (BaT works well) will be easier, but if you want to keep the parts you want, again find a price to give away the rest. More work selling parts - try racingjunk.com Then you can move on.

Maybe the price is $40k, maybe $35.. :( We all have stories of not getting money out of cars.. my GT40 replica paid me back with 60,000 miles but no-one would give me tuppence for it in 93.
