Decided to go with Action Custom’s competition FFR dash with glove box. It feels a bit thicker / heavier and I liked the beveled lip. Delivered ahead of schedule.129696129697

The flanges for the glovebox and steering column are really nice. The glovebox flange will help add back in some of the strength lost by cutting that big hole.

That rolled bottom edge, is a nice feature. I am sure it helps with keeping the shape.

Looks like a really nice piece. Like the full bottom lip and radiused glove box opening. Looks very sturdy

Will probably mount it provisionally this weekend, I will report back on fitment.

Very nice! How much customizing are they able to do? If I wanted, for example, to have all the gauge holes slightly oversized if I'm going to wrap the dash in leather, can they do that? Did you get the rest of the glovebox as well, or do you need to fabricate the door and cubby?

I believe he can customize the dash holes, he asked me which gauges and switches I had so that he cut the holes. Glove box came with door and hinges. He sells a lot of parts for original Cobras, and seems to know FFRs quite well. He was great to talk to and delivered the dash early based on what he promised. Correction on Nick's site name. It is Acton Cobra. Drop the i, not Action.

Years ago I visited his shop in NH and we talked about the dash design work that he was just beginning. He showed me his jigs and a dash he had just completed. Nice guy and was glad to show me around. Both he and his wife work the business which is in a large shop below his house. He has several Cobra's that he was working on. I later saw him at SAAC 37 in Watkins Glen. His business has greatly expanded since those days. That was back in 2012.

Following his work I made my own jig for the glove box and it turned out great. I took the standard FFR dash and laid out the glove box on it. Cut a smaller hole and worked with different hammers the rolled edge. I am very pleased with the results. My glove box will be very shallow because of a large A/C unit behind it but I just liked the looks of the glove box so I had to have one.

Curious to know if you've fitted up the dash yet, and if you have any additional thoughts on it. I'm tempted to go this route myself, and it looks like a quality product. I'm wondering how the placement of the gauges is from a visibility standpoint?

Thanks,
John

Nick is a nice guy and his metalwork is amazing. He made the splashguard for my fuel filler.

I've been working with Nick on a custom dash for my build. I've sent him dimensions for all the gauges and switches that I plan to use, along with a napkin sketch of how I want the dash laid out. The plan is that once he's finished all the custom programming, he's going to send me a scale drawing of the dash. I'm going to go down to my local Kinko's and have it printed out full-size so I can lay it out in the car and verify gauge placement and visibility before he starts fabrication. Nick seems like a very nice guy and very easy to work with so far.

https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?7534-Posting-examples-of-work-by-non-supporting-vendors

Quoting from the first post in the above thread:

One of the main reasons this forum was created was to protect the cottage industry surrounding Factory Five. We set initial vendor rates extremely low to give start ups and those hit hard by the current economy a chance to advertise their work for potential customers. Over on the FFCars.com site several non-supporting vendors have circumvented this by having customers post pics of their work and mention their name but provide no link to the vendor. Then those interested in working with the vendor could do so via PM. This in blatantly unfair to those vendors who choose to support the site and it will not be tolerated here.

We will delete posts that we decide are attempts to advertise without supporting this site. If it happens repeatedly, infractions will be given, up to and including being banned from the site.

Just to be clear, we don't want to discourage posting about work done by folks using vendors who are unknown to this site. Posting about an unknown vendor you have found who did innovative work on your build is still allowed. But repeated posts/threads about non-supporting vendors will be subject to the rules mentioned above. At just $10/month, even the smallest vendor - or potential vendor - can afford to support this site in order to show their work or use the user base to help develop a product.

Thank you for your understanding on this issue. As ever, comments/questions are welcome, so if any of the above is unclear, feel free to post here (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?7534-Posting-examples-of-work-by-non-supporting-vendors) or contact any Mod by PM if clarification is needed.

If you are interested in supporting this site by becoming a supporting vendor, please see this page:
