View Full Version : Vent
My wife says I can’t see anything in the refrigerator so I might have missed this in the instructions. I have finished my 818 except for one thing. I have a capped hose attached to the vent on the fuel pump oval. I have a charcoal canister with three openings. I have a cap on the lowest of the 3 connections to the fuel rail. The car runs fine so far, but I’ve only driven a few miles at a time. What do I do with the hose attached to the vent on the fuel pump oval?
Completing this car has been a high point in my 76 year life. Thanks guys.

I suspect the answer is "nothing." There are 3 connections on the OEM fuel pump - pump outlet (to engine), return (from fuel pressure regulator), and jet pump inlet. In the OEM setup, the fuel tank has two low points so fuel puddles in each. The fuel pump sits in one of the low points. The jet pump port on the fuel pump uses the fuel coming back from the FPR to siphon the fuel from the other low point in the OEM tank. My description here isn't great, but the Mechanism and Function portion of the factory service manual does a good job of explaining.

Two things I neglected to add.
1) No, you didn't miss it in the manual.
2) There is no vent integral to the fuel pump oval. I'm not sure how the FFR tank is vented since I've got a Boyd front-mount tank.

The manual I have shows a picture on page 210 of someone plugging a vent hose onto the vent connection on the fuel pump oval. Page 211 says to run the hose into the engine bay and attach it to the charcoal canister. The canister has a tube labeled “fuel tank”, one labeled” purge” and a third 3/4” hole with a spring in it with no label. That’s the one that holds the EVAP valve in a WRX. I don’t know what to attach to the “purge” fitting or what to do with the 3/4” hole.
