If one were to add front sway bars, would one do this before you do your initial (get it close so you can take to a professional) alignment or add the sway bars after? Just wondering if it matters.

Adding sway bars will not change the physical alignment of the front end so you can get your baseline alignment done before bolting a sway bar on.

I have a document & pictures on how to install a Miata front sway bar. If you want it,PM me with your email address.
If you put a bar on you have to unhook it to change ride height and then set it to neutral and reconnect the end link.

Good point....since I'm in the build stage....set ride height first, then sway bar install....

I've done the Miata front bars and they were ok when the only other option was the adjustable vpm unit.I now have Fortes front bar and the advantage over the Miata bar is that the bends are closer together so the bar fits tighter to the frame allowing more wheel turn.
