We are rebuilding MK3 Cobra. I purchased a Gen 1 Coyote engine and the Cobra jet intake. I'm a little worried its not going to fit. We are not quite ready to drop the engine in yet so I was wondering if anyone had experience with this before we get started. Will it fit? Are there any modifications needed to make it fit? It looks to be close.

J,

What motor is coming out of the car? The reason I ask is the drivers footbox may need updating. If it’s a 302 or 351, chances are it will. If it’s a 4.6, you should be good.

I just swapped a 347 to a coyote gen2 in a mk4. I had to buy the left foot box aluminum..it has a step in it to clear the left rear of the engine. I don’t know if it’s the same as your car but a call to FFR will clear it up. Good luck it’s a fairly major change

It was a 302 out of a '91 mustang gt. The footbox and panels are all being replaced. I bought the car with supposedly only 4 miles on it. I'm no mechanic but a friend of mine is and I should have had him look at it before I bought it. The car is a mess. The dyno said the 302 was only pushing out 186 hp. I was told it was a fresh rebuild with a TKO500 tranny. Neither of these were true. My friend told me I was better off buying a new MK4 kit and starting over. But I'm already invested in this one. Completely new wiring and everything has to be done. My friend works on a race team- said I was lucky I didn't catch fire in the 2600 miles I drove it. Thanks for the input.

looks like a fun project. the coyote will fit in there but call F5 about panels. They should still be able to make them if needed. Go get the engine and test fit it in there

I put a Gen II Coyote in a MK III with no issues. Used the correct engine mounts and replaced driver's side footbox panels.

We have all the mounts and panels. Just unsure about the height. The Cobra jet intake sits high up on the engine

I have the CJ intake on a Coyote, but in a Mk IV frame. The intake was clearing the hood, but has started to rub slightly.
I am still in gel coat and not for sure the body is high, low or in between. I put a piece of peel and stick foam on the bottom of the hood. Also, if I cut the hood for the scoop it is a non issue.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, I was thinking the hood may need some "adjusting". We are going to find out today as the engine is getting dropped in.
Thank you!

Is your mass air sensor in the big aluminum tube coming off the throttle body.
I do not know if tuning will be an issue in that large of an intake tube?
If you have had it running already, I guess not.
My intake filter is behind the rad fan also. My tuner, Lund, advised me to block the rad fan air from the filter.
Here is my set up, if you missed it from my post.

Just for the CJ part... Here is mine. Obviously not checked with 100% body clearance yet.

As mentioned the Drivers side footbox is real tight and the panels I believe are coyote specific (Although I modded mine for more clearance). There is an assortment of coyote parts that comes when you order the kit but really just need the engine mounts and maybe the coyote pedal bracket from FFR. I ended up not using several of the small parts. Like to make the heater hose eliminator. Go to the instructions part of FFR's parts site and download the coyote installation instructions.
