View Full Version : Lifting Points and Recommendation on Lift Pads (MK 1)

Hello,

I put my recently acquired MK 1 up on the 2-post lift yesterday for the first time and was wondering where are the best lifting points on the frame? I assumed that anywhere on the two main round tube rails is safe? Are the cross members strong enough?

Any lifting/jacking point diagrams floating around. I searched the forums for a while this morning but didn't find anything.

I felt the stock round lifting pads on my lift seemed a little sketchy on the round rails of the MK 1 frame. There doesn't seem to be as much surface contact as I would like. I think about this a lot when I'm standing underneath the car.

I was looking online today for a different set of lifting pads. Seems like these would be a better way to go?

My other cars are Corvettes with traditional square (flat) frame rails so this have never been an issue. As a matter of fact, I usually throw an old hockey puck on each pad for an offset. I guess there is just more surface area on the pad with a square frame.

Any thoughts? What are you guys doing?

Regards,

BillMac

You are fine on the main 4 inch tubes. Those rubber pads can't hurt but aren't strictly needed.

Thanks!

I came in on Sunday and tried again with the standard round lifting pads but with no hockey pucks and it was fine. As long as you get the pad centered on the frame rail it was solid.
