View Full Version : Master Cylinders Banjo Bolt Leaking

Finally have brake fluid in the system and had to fix a couple leaks on the rear lines, which are now dry. But now am having trouble with the master cylinders which use a Banjo bolt for the supply line from the reservoir.

At first I just snugged these bolts down since this is a non-pressure side of the MC. Both M/Cs are weeping at the the banjo joint. I have tried tightening the bolts several times without success and am at the point where I am afraid any further attempts will strip the threads in the master cylinders. I have verified that the banjo bolt has the provided nylon crush washers on the top and bottom.

Any ideas or recommendations - ?

Thanks in advance

If it is using a 10 or 12 MM Crush Washer than consider these:

Are you using copper crush washers?

Had the same problem, as have a few others. This thread may be of interest. https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?25344-Banjo-Bolt-and-Eyelet&p=288750#post288750

Eventually solved the problem by using somewhat larger copper crush washers (I can look up the part number if you'd like), but if I had it to do all over I'd ditch the banjos altogether by using the AN fitting shown in post #4.

Good luck.

The M/Cs were supplied with nylon washers and I have them in place on both sides of the banjo.

Thanks, these look good. I will check them out.

What vintage is your kit? The complete kit M/Cs I received in 2016 were replaced by FF because they had a history of leaking. I think they had banjo fittings and silver bodies. The replacement ones have black bodies and no banjo fittings.

My kit (complete) is # 8415, fall of 2014, Silver MCs, banjos. Going to try GODadGo's recommendation of Summit crush washers with rubber seals. Am to far in to change out the master cyliinders...

Our cars are literally 100 apart so we've likely got the same parts.

#8,515 was ordered on November 10th, 2014 and delivered January 29th, 2015.

I have the silver bodied M/C's (FFR 8439). I played around with the proper length of bolt, and crush washer for the banjo's. I ended up with plain copper crush washers, and have never had a problem. Here's an old thread with some pics (my posts #3 and #7). https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?25344-Banjo-Bolt-and-Eyelet&p=288704#post288704
