View Full Version : Roll Cage Wiring?

I'm getting ready to wire a 3rd brake light and a rear-view mirror camera, and I need to route some wires up near the top of the roll cage. I'd like to get some ideas of how people are routing and/or clamping wires to keep them as hidden as possible. Obvious option is to drill and route them through the roll cage tube, but should I be concerned with reduced structural integrity? Another option that comes to mind are stick-on cable tie mounts, but will those stand up to the test of time? Other hidden/stealthy options I might consider?

Though I am not planning a 3rd brake light nor a camera I do what to put courtesy lights up there I just ordered some and I was considering the same thing. My question is how so get the wire fished through, I wanted to use a 1/4" hole and no bigger. The idea is still percolating in my brain so if you beat me to it do a write up. I did think of the safety aspects as well but haven't researched it yet.

Just as a type this I am thinking fiberglass fish tape but the hole would need to be more than 1/4"

I used the 1/4" cable channel from HD (tv install etc) for some parts and hot glue for cabling.

I've heard people have great success with dental floss and a vacuum. I've also seen people do it with strong magnets and dragging a small washer or screw attached to the end of some line. Because of the small hole size, I think I'd give the dental floss and vacuum one a try.

I like that direction. Does it bend well around the curves, or do you have to notch it or modify it?

Old electricians trick: ball of kite string and either a shop vac or if the distance is real far, air pressure blown thru the tube . . . string will come out the open end.

Did many projects that way when we forgot our fishtape.

There are 90’s and T’s that help get you where you need to go. It bends a bit too.

I ended up using some of the half-round weatherstripping that came with the kit. Turned out really nice. Thanks again for the idea John— your solution inspired me to look at different solutions.
