Scrubbed! If they could have held for 10 minutes more the weather may have been OK, but with an instantaneous launch window the attempt was scrubbed at t-minus 17 minutes.

Next attempt Saturday afternoon 3:22 EST

I was watching it live with my son. We were both pretty bummed when they scrubbed it. Hopefully they can go on Saturday. What a historic achievement it would be. I remember watching the first space shuttle launch on a TV at the front of my 6th grade classroom.

I remember my parents sitting me in front of our black & white TV to watch the Apollo 11 moon landing. I was too young to care, but I still remember the event. Today I work in the space business. A couple of months ago, I watched one of our new Orion capsules being moved between test facilities from my office window.

I was only a couple of weeks old when Apollo 11 landed on the moon, so I don't remember a whole lot of that ;-)

That's very cool to see the new Orion capsule! Thanks for sharing.

I watched with baited breath, as did most Americans, until the weather put things on hold.
Darn, Darn, Darn, but I'll be watching on Saturday for sure!
Hopefully all will go well on that day!

Why Am I A Space Crazy Banker?

...Growing up in Slidell during the Apollo program was amazing.
...We were the fastest growing city in the USA because the Saturn-5 Boosters were built across the pond (Lake Pontchartrain) in New Orleans, yes I said it, New Orleans.
...They were tested in Mississippi at the John C. Stennis Space Center where we could often here the engine rumbling when they'd fire them up.
...After the Apollo program came to an end they built the tanks for the Shuttle program over at the Michoud Assembly Center.

I love this stuff! I got to see a prototype of the capsul a few years back. Pretty cool! They had one at NASAs' Wallops Island facility in Virginia. I was running a team of engineers doing some mechanical design work for them. We had acccess to almost every building. They were getting ready to start launching again there so there was a lot going on. Loved it!

I had a summer job at Iona Mfg in Manchester, CT in 1969. I was between my junior and senior years in High School. They brought in TVs so the workers could watch the moon landing. That was really something. That was also the summer of Woodstock, but there was no way my folks were going to let me go there (with two co-workers who did...)

I was still in New England when the first space shuttle launched. I seem to remember seeing it on TV (at work - this time in New Britain, CT) circa 1980. That was pretty amazing, too. I was disappointed when the US space program could no longer launch people to the ISS. This is a huge step. I certainly hope all goes well this coming Saturday! OK - editorial comment - the U.S. needs to reclaim its place as leader in space exploration!
