I'm finally ready to put my Halibrand spinners on for the last time (Finally got my car back from Whitby's) and was wondering what the best method is for ease of "On and Off" without messing up the threads?

On recommendation from Jeff Kleiner I bought CRC product Dry Graphite Lube spray item #1003362. I'm not on the road yet but it seems to lube very well. When I sprayed it on I made sure to wipe off any over spray. I also bought Silicone "0" rings from The O-Ring Store. Model S70329 to hold the spinner hub in place without using silicone. I also ditched the spinner set screws to avoid damaging the threads. I plan to use safety wire from 1 spinner tab to a wheel spoke. I haven't quite worked out how I will attach the safety wire to the spoke yet.

X2 on the O-rings and ditching the set screws. I lubed the threads with a product from Cobra Valley that they make called Spinner-Eaze. It works great and only takes a drop to keep the threads from galling. Be sure you put the spinners on the correct side of the car so that they thread on counter-clockwise and try to tighten as the wheels rotate while driving.

Ok,,, So you guys are gonna hate this but I really don't *******care. On my car I drilled two 3/16 holes in the face of the cap. I just used a spanner tool to hold the cap......cause I don't ******** care. Oh! Iffin you are wondering... I'm not really swearing in my post. I just put some a**-tor-risks in to muddy the water . Ok, that one is risky at best . (just havin fun yall)...da Bat

I use the same graphite spray as mentioned above and works great, in my second season and no problem with multiple off and ons. As for holding in place, probably the most elegant solution here..... about 2 inches of pool noodle behind the cap, between the wheel cap and the hub dust cap. Works great and yet another use for the Swiss Army knife that is the pool noodle.

I like the Bat Man's attitude, but I already machined a recess in my hubs to stick on these pretty ********** Cobra Emblems. Jeff is going to hate this solutiion...

Almost the same for me. CDXXVII had 4 left over rings when he did his, and I upped the design a bit by attaching the ring to the spinner hub with roll pins. The assembly stays put with the 3 set screws.
I still have the spinner-to-hub set screws, but I use nylon tipped set screws (they have a soft tip in the end), and just snug them (not tighten them). I'm not sure they are needed, but I used them from day 1 and just haven't taken them out.

Why didn't I think of using roll pins....I like it! Yep, nylon tipped set screws here also and graphite spray on the threads.

I just purchased a set of FFR Halibrand replicas for my MK 1 and put them on yesterday. I really appreciated all the tips I found in this thread.
Question: Assuming some of the tips above have been applied how hard should you tighten the spinners? Hand tight or a few taps with a dead blow mallet ? At the end of the day I think I'm going to safety wire them.

Have had good luck with Silicone. A bead around the flange on the center cap press it in tight & let it set over night. Standard anti-seize compound on the center cap threads. Two hand tighten the spinner. Any time the wheel is off trim out the silicone & put a fresh bead of it on the flange.

I use the silicone O-rings and tighten the spinners by hand until they stop moving. I don't use the set screws either. Just be sure the spinners are on the correct side of the car so that the forward motion of the wheel tightens them. In other words, they should tighten by spinning opposite the forward rotation of the tire (counter-clockwise on the passenger side and clockwise on the driver's side).
Also, double check the tread direction -- looks like they may be reversed, but It's hard to tell. Tire grooves typically don't channel water toward the center of the tire, but rather toward the outer edge.

All of my tips have already been cited but I'll condense them:
---Pool noodle works great to keep the center pushed out and add just a bit of tension so that you can get the spinner started
---Ditch the setscrews; they aren't necessary and tend to booger the threads on the center when tightened
---Dry graphite, not antiseize. The antseize attracts dust and grime. Every time I get a car in that has it I have a bear of a time turning the spinners.
---If you have the center & spinner on the proper side of the car the inertia of forward rotation will naturally keep the spinner tight. I give them a couple of light taps with a plastic mallet to make sure they're seated and call it good. Safety wire isn't needed but some guys like the look.

Papa,
The tires are mounted in the proper direction. Might be the photo.

Jeff,
I did use the Dry Graphite Spray Lube but I found it very messy. As a matter of fact is was so runny and wet I had to thoroughly wipe down the hubs.
Any advice on the proper amount or technique?
With Anti-seize, I've always been warned to use it sparingly but with Dry Graphite spray ??

Dry Graphite is "Dry". It comes in a plastic tube and shakes out or puffs out when you squeeze the tube. Most times found in the door lock section of the hardware store...da Bat
