Hi all,
I am finally there and ready to embark on the NC inspection process. I am looking for info on the inspection process and recommendations for insurance coverage in NC.
I was planning on a home visit for inspection, but as of last week, due to COVID-19, this is not an option, so may have to trailer the car to them in South Greensboro.
1) I have been in contact with Inspection office but do not know what to expect or what paper work may be needed for the inspection?
2) Will the car be immediately ready for title and registration after the inspection or will I have to wait for additional paper work from the state?
3) What paper work will be needed for the registration process?
4) Insurance options in NC? I have heard many recommend Infinity Insurance. Is that the best one to go with in NC?
5) Will Infinity allow the car to be driven to work?
6) What is the difference between agreed value and stated value insurance?

A fellow roadster owner, just informed me that Infinity is ending coverage in NC - wouldn't you know it.
Apparently Hagerty is picking up Infinity policies for a reasonable price. I am not sure if that holds for new comers.

Let me know how it goes, I'm a few weeks out from going down this road. My initial research found you need to fill out a MVR-1 and MVR-55 and have an inspection done with all your records.

Have vehicle inspected by local License and Theft Inspector. Get form LT-270.
- Make sure you have documentation for purchase of engine & trans.
- Having S/N on engine & trans match paperwork is very helpful
- Fill out MVR-1 (Title application)
- Fill out Form 92-H (Affidavit of Facts)
- Make copies of everything (It will get lost somewhere in Raleigh)
Best shot is to take all your stuff to DMVHQ in Raleigh after the inspection. Be sure you ask to have it registered as an Antique Auto. They will give you plates right away the Title will show up later by mail.
Out today any questions will be back this evening.
Have Infinity but its going away in December when I would normally renew. Some other companies are stepping up.

Very helpful! Just a few questions.
Where do you get the forms (LT-270, MVR-1, 92-H)?
Are they available on line or do you pick them up at the local regular tag and registration office?
Does LT-270 come from the inspector?

Infinity ended coverage in Tennessee too.
I highly recommend Robbin Terry of Midwest Classic Insurance - he's made it easy and affordable for me for years, and he's also a forum sponsor here.
He seems to have multiple options for most states.

Does LT-270 cone from the inspector?
Forms are online at NCDMV. Look up replica cars. The inspector will provide (LT-270) which is a report of inspection. It will come in a few days or might have it ready. Kind of loosey goosey depending on the inspector. Once all the stuff is filled in take them & LT-270 to NCDMV. They will do the checking etc while you wait. You will need to pay the DMV fees & the sales tax at that time. I declared value for sales tax as the Kit, engine & transmission for tax about $32,000.
On the plus side, antique autos are considered a special class of property, assessed for tax purposes with a value of no more than $500. They are also exempt from annual safety and emissions inspections.
They will hand you the Antique Auto plate, registration & mail you the title. You are good to drive the car. Good plan is to download.
G.S. 20-63(d) "Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person."

This is very cool but just remember that if you drive out of state this does not apply and you will need your regular plate on the car.

Thanks!!!!
Great information everyone.
I am going to contact the inspector again this week to see if they are back to doing at home inspections. If not, I might have to bite the bullet and trailer it to them.
