I followed the purple wire on the forth coil and I am not getting a working tach. Anybody run into this?

First, just FYI doesn't matter which coil you choose. Any one of the eight will work. Pick the one that is most efficient for your routing. Second, are you positive you connected to the signal wire? Every coil has two wires. A common one that is the same color for all eight. On mine the common wires for all were purple. Then each coil has a signal wire of a different color. Mine happened to be yellow. But that's just because of the cylinder I chose and I don't thing it was #4. As I recall, one of the cylinders has two purple wires (e.g. signal and common are the same color) so that could be confusing if that's the one you chose. But don't quote me on that. Third, even if you connected to the correct wire, won't work unless the tach is calibrated to the .5 pulse per rev setting.

Edwardb, Thank you. I will recheck my wire. Not sure if the vintage FFR gauge set is already configured for .5 pulse. I will ask FFR

Why ask FFR? It's normal for most of the gauges to require calibration. The instructions that came with the gauges explain how. It's easy, and in my experience the factory default on the tach is not .5 pulse.
