View Full Version : Question about Forum practices
I am very new to the forum and apparently do not know how to reply to someone who replied to my post. In particular, I do not know how to quote certain lines of a post to respond to. Could someone help me understand the process. I would hate to mess up. Thanks.

At the lower right hand corner of the post you want to quote (reply with quote) Click on it.

How do you quote only certain lines and not the whole post?
Any text between quote tags will appear as text in a quote bubble.
quoted text
Quote tags are Quote in square brackets[ ] to enable and /Quote in square brackets to turn it off.
Exampe: {Quote} quoted text {/Quote} would, if you replaced the curiy brackets with square brackets, put the words "quoted text" in a quote bubble.
A variation includes who you are quoting:

The syntax is called BBCode. You might find this useful:

I would hate to mess up.
When you use Reply with quote, the full text of the message you are quoting will be copied to the reply box. Just remove the potions between the BBCode quote tags that you don't want to quote, leaving what you want and then type your response anywhere outside the quote tags.

Another way to do it is to click on the "Reply with Quote" button, which will then put their entire post inside quote tags. You can then edit (delete) the part of their post that you don't want to include in the quote. Just be careful not to accidentally delete any part of the quote tags. Sometimes you'll see people accidentally delete one of the brackets and then everything looks all wonky. Like this...
