Anyone out there with an MK3 that has 1" or 1.5" rear wheel spacers?

Are you using 9 inch wheels on the rear? The usual 10.5s or 11s w/ 315s don't need a spacer.

I have 10.5's. But the wheels sit inside the fender wheels.

What size are those tires? They look like they are tremendously stretched on those wheels; the sidewalls do not come out as far as the rim lip.

Jeff, I have 17" Bullit Rims.
9" front with 255/40R17
10.5" rear 275/40R17
Are the tires not wide enough for the rims?

I also have Bullit wheels with 255 & 275 tires on my Mkll, the backs just fit any wider and they will rub on the outside. The Mkll back fenders are narrower than the newer models. I had to move the panhard rod to get them to fit. The backs do look slightly stretched. I have 1/4 inch spacers on the 93 Fox axle because they did rub on the inside. The fronts also have 1/4 inch spacers for clearance to the upper "A" arm, using Fox spindles. Different tire brands are slightly different, I have Nitto 555's on now and they are wider than the Michelin PSll's I had before.

I think most manufacturers recommend a 9 to 11 inch rim for 275/40-17 so you're kind of on the edge of that. I, and most others, run 315/35-17 when using a 10.5" rim. For reference here's one of mine.

Notice that the sidewall doesn't seem to be stretched because the wheel and tread on the ground are pretty much the same width whereas your tread appears to be narrower than the wheel.
You'r fronts are fine. FYI, I use 275/40-17 in the front on a 9" rim.
If it was mine I'd be thinking about going to 315s on the rear but that's just one guy's opinion.

Me too. I can't imagine 275s in the rear.
