I just purchased a partially built MKIV. The previous owner was going will the all chrome look. I’ve decided to black mine out. I’ve got a chrome drivers side roll bar, asking $350, and a set of stainless steel side pipes, they are not brand new but look it. They were $1,200 brand new, asking $700 for those. If interested text me at 816-263-2645.

Why don't you just powdercoat/ceramic coat what you have black?

I assumed I’d have to bead blast them first and didn’t want to do that if I can find a home for these pipes.

Also, I’m sure someone who is starting a build could get a brand new chrome roll bar and stainless side pipes for a little less money, then I would go to FFR and buy an all ready powder coated roll bar and bare steel pipes and have them ceramic coated black.

Starting out with Stainless Steel is a good idea, then color it the way you want. SS is the least heat dissipating metal there is. So less heat is transferred to the ambient air around them. Then the ceramic coating the color you want helps even more. :D

You want the SS for the inside of the pipe as well. Less prone to rusting from the inside out versus just steel. Outside prep for the pipes is easy for any local jobber that specializes in ceramic coating. My roll bar was Satin Black. I had it re-powder coated to Gloss black.

Well it sounds like having the SS is the best option. I think I will keep the SS pipes. I would still like to sell the chrome roll bar.

You won’t have to do anything. They’ll prep them. That’s their job.

I am still interested in selling the roll bar. If anyone is buying a kit and wants the chrome roll bar, I’m sure we could work something out.

I'm also doing black instead of all the chrome. I took my pipes and the rest of the chrome to a local guy that does ceramic and powder coating. Looks great. And a lot cheaper than buying a set I'd want to do black-out anyway. I had the wheels, head light trim, handles, etc. All black powder or ceramic coatings in semi gloss.

Did you have the wheels powder coated? I just talked with a guy today who recommended paint on the wheels due to the positive charge not necessarily getting to all the small nooks & crannies due to magnetic interference. I was considering just painting mine for that reason.

Mine look great, and it's a lot tougher than paint. I don't see where anything that I wanted black is black.

You should find another powdercoater. Mine came out fantastic.
