Hi, new to the forum. Trying to help out a friend who has a 2001 Mk1 roadster. The car has a fox body pedal assembly. The clutch arm which attaches to the quadrant cracked. Also I can see the fox body pedal mount assembly is starting to buckle. Two questions 1) what is the best way to get the pedal assembly out (looks ugly) and 2) Are there any other pedals available for the Mk1 that will fit without two much trouble? I have seen a lot of info for the Mk4 but cant seem to find anything for the Mk1. Thanks in advance for any info to help get him back into the seat to enjoy his car

You wont get the entire assembly out without removing the body Where is it buckling? It should be attached to the fore and aft tubes with 4 bolts as well as 4 bolts through the firewall. If all those or most of those bolts are in place, it cannot buckle. The fox body pedal bod kinda looks buckled when they are new. Just the way they are formed. The clutch pedal can be easily replaced.
The pedal boxes are all the same for all the marks. You can use a fox body or a 1994 to 2004 pedal assembly.
Also an option is the current wildwood assembly that FFR uses.

I’ve heard of guys cutting an access panel in the top of the foot box to change the quadrant. Depending on what the problem is you might be able to get away with that. There are some pics of my Mark I pedal box in the links below that might help show you what you are dealing with.

Thanks for the responses so far. Great information. I was afraid it was not going to be an easy repair, which ever route he chooses :(

He must have an extremely heavy clutch, for that donor arm to have cracked. He could just take the arm to a competent welder, and have it repaired. Myself, and many other builders have had their brake pedal arms cut, and welded, and I've never heard of a single failure.

I'd be really surprised if the box itself was damaged. That would be extremely rare, unless perhaps it had previously been in an accident.

This is what I suspect happened. Whoever did the build modified the box around the lower right vertical mount point which weakened the box. Over time that section started to buckle. This allowed the box to slowly shift which led to the steering shaft making contact with the bolt which holds the quadrant to the clutch arm. He took the car to a local shop, where they made an unsuccessful attempt at a repair. When he was trying to get the car home, he felt the rubbing, but at one point he had the steering turned in a way which the flat portion of the shaft was horizontal (making the steering shaft slightly wider). At that point he pushed the pedal just a little harder to over come the binding (while it was fully bound up) and snap. Now he needs both the box and clutch lever :(
