I have not done any searching, but thought I would put the line in the water, while I looked.
I need a shift light. Got too deep into monitoring and let the rpm get to almost 8K.
I can see this happening in some cat and mouse play and do not want to hurt anything.
Thanks for any info.

I use a small diameter MSD shift light that works very well.

To be effective in a racing environment the light needs to be mounted in you face, I also have shift lights programmed in my RacePak dash and will never see them on the track, just too much out the windshield to look at and then there's those mirrors that take up the rest of your attention. I also have a small low oil pressure warning light (different color from the shift light) in my face. There is no way to look at gauges when trying to keep the car in your lane and watch your competition.

You have a ton of choices, just cruise through the Summit or Jegs catalog.

I made one out of an LED and a RPM switch. The base is a polished piece of scrap billit I had lying around.

Just curious - I understand wanting to shift before 8K as a stock coyote is probably done making power before that, but I would have assumed that there's a rev limiter built into the control pack to prevent actual damage to the engine. Is that not the case? Any sense for what RPM starts to induce valve float on that engine?

The aluminator is not a stock Coyote engine. I think the red line 7800, but will turn 8000 without damage. I do not like going into that area, especially not intentionally.
I might see if my tuner can put a limiter in the tune.

Naz, I have never raced or even competed at your level, but can certainly relate to no time for watching the gauges.
I have a Raptor shift light in another car and reviewed it. Its simplicity might hold me to that brand.

Sorry, I missed that you're talking about an Aluminator.

Nice work. I am surfing now for what fits the bill. I am leaning toward the Raptor, Summit does not carry. Amazon Prime will probably get the order. I have some other lines out and will see what other info comes in. Thanks

Did not mean to sound blunt, but it did. I should have included that in the post. Most do not pick up on the A50XS part number.
All good and valid points. Thanks for the interest.

That’s one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen in a awhile.

I really like the Speedhut tachs with the shift lights built in:

https://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR4-TACH-02/1/Tachometer-8K-RPM-Shift-light

It also has a output jack so you can add a shift light somewhere else if you need it, but I have good luck seeing the lights on the tach out of peripheral vision.

I've been using Raptor's for 16yrs. I still have my first edition one going strong. Nice thing about them is they can be set easily. Have you tried them direct?

I have a Raptor in my 99 Mustang Cobra. It was easy to install, set and use. No problems in 21 years.
I just got my new one for the F5 Roadster. I got a yellow color. It has push buttons, seems like my old one had adjusting screws.
Looking at routing the wiring and location.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I sent my speed o back to have the hi/low beam and turn signal indicators installed. Wish I had thought of having a shift light put in the tach.

thanks,

I also think the Speedhut Tachometer with Shift lights are the the way to go. I put them in my old Midstate and its what we use in our FormaCars builds. The instructions are easy to follow and they have a fully customizable shift span, with both yellow 1-2-3 and red indicators. They also have stand alone shift lights, which I'm unfamiliar with, but their products are solid. They have virtually unlimited combinations of finishes too, so you can match what you currently have.
