I'm getting ready to bleed my Wilwood brakes and I'm checking all the lines and fittings. Should I be applying some sort of thread sealer on the fitting going into the caliper? or is just tightening it down enough.

Those appear to be tapered "pipe" fittings... some will argue yes, some no.
IMO if you're very careful to NOT get sealant or teflon tape on the bottom 3 or 4 threads (where it could migrate into the caliper/chamber) a little bit wouldn't hurt.

I got some Permatex by recommendation of others on here

The threads into the caliper on those Wilwoods are 1/8-27 NPT. It's a Wilwood 220-6412 if you want to look up and confirm. Since national pipe thread (NPT) fittings by definition seal via the tapered threads, thread sealant is a good practice. X2 on a good product like the Permatex mentioned. Negatory on Teflon tape. Especially for brakes. This is a decent explanation of NPT fittings and how to install them: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/document.asp?DocID=TECH00097. Note the other side of that fitting is a tapered seat metal-to-metal -AN fitting. No sealant on those kinds of fittings.

Ok, thank you very much. I'll apply the Permatex product.

Wilwood tells you to use tape in the installation directions.

True enough. Many on this forum, and a bunch of others I've reviewed, say not to use Teflon tape on anything brake related. The Pegasus Racing link I posted previously said the same thing. Didn't pick it for that reason. I just find their tech postings informative so provided for the OP. In the end, builders choice I guess. Mine will continue to use Permatex, which BTW I've never had any leak.

Hi all, quick question piggy backing on this thread. The FFR installation instructions call for crush washers, and I have seen some chatter on the need for crush washers in wilwood applications (MC, I think?). The front wilwood flex lines didn't come with crush washers. Since there is an NPT fitting, I thought I would ask the question whether I need to use a crush washer on that? Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Matt

No crush washers on NPT fittings. Crush washers are used on non-flared, non-tapered fittings, like banjos.

Got it, thank you sir!

I used no sealant on any of my Wilwood fittings and none of them leak. Only one needed tightening after filling the system and adding pressure. To me, simpler is better.
