Factory Five Racing Episode Needs Customers

I have some exciting news to announce. We will be working with the Speed Channel Show Car Warriors on a new show where two teams will be building side-by-side Factory Five '33 Hot Rods and YOU are invited to be on the build crew.

The two Factory Five '33 kits will have the body work completed, panels fit (primed and ready for paint), and all running gear for the build. Teams are limited to seven people and selection begins shortly.

The guys from Car Warriors contacted us and I loved the concept of building some quality cars on the show, however, we do not have the man power to staff two simultaneous builds. So, we came up with the idea of opening up the show to the Factory Five community. We've done this before with the Hot Rod Magazine five-day build (which was done mostly by customers) and the expertise and fellowship of the Factory Five community is something that will be fun to watch on TV. One great idea, depending on submissions, is to put together two Hot Rod building teams, East vs. West with the Mississippi River as the official dividing line.

So, here's the program...

If you would like to participate and be on the show, you must meet the following qualifications, send in a video application, and agree to the terms of the show:

Qualifications:

You must have built, or presently be building, a Factory Five Racing car (any model).
You must be available for filming the show on November 14-18 in North Ridge, CA
You will have to pay your own travel expenses
You must be a nice person and promise to do your best and compete with good sportsmanship
Video application:

Answer the following questions in a video of yourself. The video should not be more than 3 minutes and should include the following.

1 - State your name, spell your name, and state your hometown, city/state.
2 - Describe the Factory Five vehicle that you built (i.e. model, year, running gear, hours to build, color, etc.)
3 - Describe your best car skills (i.e. painting, engine building, assembly, customization, wiring, craftsmanship, speed).
4 - Tell us a first car story, a funny car story, an inspirational story, or something about yourself that you feel is important.

Please e-mail your video to webmaster@factoryfive.com by using a service such as YouSendIt for free or send it to us on a DVD. The video should be submitted as either an MPEG or MOV.

Gee, I would love to do this, but because I am involved with George Barris East Coast , Somebody would call foul if the team I am on won. I just spoke to the East Coast rep for Barris, Andy Perillo, and he said I should go out there for the filming and hang with George. I don't think George gets to involved with the build just the judging. I haven't seen George since last August, when he was in NY for a show. The man has more neat stories about all the famous people he has built cars for. Elvis, Bob Hope, Sonny & Cher, John Wayne and a thousand others.

It sounds like a great opportunity, but no way I can get to Cali if I was picked, plus building a '33 that wasn't mine would probably just depress me! LOL.

Seems to me most of 'em choose to throw clashing personalities together in order to make "good" TV. Is this show different? I'd hate to see FFR customers manipulated into bad behavior.

craftsmanship - I can keep it on the road for a LONG time and parts do not fall off - did i mention how well 200mph duct tape works??
speed - of assembly or driving - hummm no tickets yet...

Man, I really want to see this show now, with all these great builders on the teams. Wish I could be there, but I don't quite qualify. Haven't built one yet (although I'm helping someone else on their Mark IV) and I really am not in the same class as any of these others. But I will definitely be looking for this episode and recording it for replay after replay. :P

That sounds like an awesome adventure. I wouldn't qualify because: 1 - After following FFR for 11 years, I still haven't been able to buy a kit, and 2: I'm out of the country currently. However, I do have a favor to ask. Dave, can you please post the episode or a link to it on the FFR website that can be viewed overseas? I am in Indonesia till March, and almost none of the tv shows can be watched over here due to copyright restrictions. But I don't want to miss this!

I will be sitting by the phone awaiting the news! I found that creating the video was one challenge and sending it was another, I should have just asked my kids to do it for me.
I goggled the show and found an unofficial site with some great video clips of the inner workings of the show and a tour of the workshop. It appears to be well equipped with everything needed to add some extra touches to the kit. Can't wait to see what skills are brought to the east & west coast teams, hopefully they will not just be adding some Bling! A 72 hour build seams a natural opportunity for an energy drink sponsor! I say Red Bull and Vodka!

That's not correct. You have to have previous FFR building experience, and it wasn't limited to '33 builders.

No one is 100% locked in yet. Dave now told me tomorrow around noon. They also have to do background checks on evryone once the finalists are decided. Hoping the filmng is at least 200 yards from playgrounds!

As far as what Brian posted, it is true that to apply one must only have either owned or presently own a FFR vehicle, but when it comes to building a hotrod in 72 hours, having someone on the team with experience in building a FFR hotrod you must agree, carrys a bit more weight. Plus the producers cut back the number of people on each team than what I was originally told.

Hardly Mendeola at this point, but teams have been selected and should finally be approved today. Sally here at FFR will send out email confirms and regrets to everyone who applied. Sounds like the production company has still not secured flights for them but from what I've seen, all the paperwork people are college kids and they are all spread out. Just saw this post for the first time. Guess I never pooked around in general discussion. Us east coast guys are all business. Seams like the west coast crew has to much time on their hands. In the end I think we will have two kick *** hot rods. I have all ready won just being chosen for the show. I think F5 will have 2 cool cars to parade around for a year. Look forward to seeing them at this summers open house as the new highlight of their showroom.

I'm still drowning from last week and so i jump on here and read this post.... I have a call from the exec producer in a few minutes. I think they have NO IDEA who they are about to have on set. Batman, Presley, Ruth, Langley... Seriously, the talent assembled is really impressive and I cant wait for the show. There have been some major snafus and I think hollywood reality is different than the world we all live in, but still this will be a BLAST. HUGE HUGE thanks to all you guys for this effort and also to the guys we couldnt accomodate. Great applications all and now a great east coast vs. west coast build next week.

I spoke to the exec producer today and I get the distinct feeling that they have NO IDEA who is about to descend on their set! The teams are just the best people and it was near impossible to whittle the apps down to 6 guys each. When the show changed the build time from 72 hours to 48 hours I was heartbroken... It was either kill the whole thing or roll the dice and go for it. It was the teams who inspired me to stay in it. Guys like Mark Dougherty who laughed and said, "we can still do it" and Miller and Lang who shook their heads and didnt want to quit cause this is for kids and these guys have hearts as big as texas. I cannot imagine a better group of guys and I cannot wait to see what they get done in 48 friggin hours! I think the world will be slack-jawed at the cars and while I cant have any favorites, I can't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for those guys who stepped up. I CANT WAIT to see these guys unleashed and I know there will be some ROTFLMAO moments thru the builds.

I havent gotten a final on that yet. That was one of the commits, but in the contract it is one. I think the producers are trying to make it a surprise and not let anyone know for sure also give the teams a chance to do something cool, but I honestly do not know. Remember, they produce the show... we build cars. I have three teenage daughters and the LAST thing I seek is drama!

Glad to have finally gotten my travel info from the Car Warriors people and getting on a plane to LA in a couple of hours. I have Dad picking me up at the airport in Hot Rod Lincoln with trailer in tow for my tool box. Eastcoast guys! don't forget your tools! all they have on the set is pliers,a pipe wrench,a Cresent wrench and a BFH! Oh yeh as far as welding goes you will need to use your own Sun glasses! Going directly to Bobs Big Boy for the Friday Night Cruise and a Double Decker!

Ours was the 7th episode filmed and the first shows airs in Feb. So the FFR episode can air any time between the start and the end of the 12th episode...

We all gathered at the local Mexican restaurant on the night before shooting and drank our share of Corona's and Da Bat downed a full bowl of Salsa as a laxative I can only surmise. Our beautiful Latin waitresses took this great picture of the unruly gang just prior to the Sheriff showing up! Was this really the best way to prepare for Car Warriors? Remember this is Hollywood and not everything is Real!
