View Full Version : Public Service Announcement: What MK means

For my fellow FFR owners, I feel compelled to clear up with the "MK" means in MK3 or MK4. I've heard a lot of guys say, "I've just ordered my new "M K Four" and I want so badly to correct them, but don't want to burst their bubble (or bust their balls).
I found this definition: Mk is a written abbreviation for "mark". Mk is used to refer to a particular model or design of a car or machine."
In the Navy, our weapons were called by "MK (mark)" designations, like the MK14 torpedo.
Now you know. Carry on.

I find it depressing that it is even necessary that you need to explain it.

OK then, how about if we explain these:
It's Wilwood, not Wildwood
It's FFR, not FF5
It's caster, not castor
It's brakes, not breaks
It's toe in, not tow in
Feel free to add more ;)

Funny Story... I was at SEMA One year working the booth for FFR. A young man and his apparent father came over and asked me if Jesper was around. I said "sure" I walked over and said "excuse me Jesper, these folks would like to speak to you" they exchanged niceties and I walked on to the next customer.
A little while later Jesper came over and asked if I knew who that was. I said I read his name tag it said Will Wood.
He looked at me like "duh?"
I realized is was WILL WOOD, from wilwood.!

Speaking of SEMA, you reminded me of another one:
It's Superformance, not Superperformance

Since we're getting technical :) it's "Mk" not "MK". It's not an acronym, so the K is not capitalized.

I sure hope that all the new people to the forum are not afraid to post their questions in fear their grammar will be critiqued. God forbid they insult everyone's intelligence because they have not been building Cobras for 10 years. Oh sorry I mean mk4s, Mk fours, ffr, mkz oh heck I'm just going to give up.

FFR is OK- this is Factory Five Racing
FF5 is not OK- this would be Factory Five 5..... Huh?
F5R is OK- This would be Factory 5 Racing.
I don't think Newbies should be afraid to post their questions for fear of criticism.
We are just having a little fun.
Couple other things.
If your left taillight comes on when you turn on the wipers. You do not need to check the firing order.
If the car was running great but stalled- You do not need to check the firing order.

Maybe not exactly to the Cobra theme, but mysteries of life nonetheless:
If it is a pair of pants,... why is a bra singular?
And
If the plural of foot is feet,.... shouldn’t “boots” be “beets”??
Just wondering or is that wandering?

Tyres meaning tires and you are American.
Vibration Damper vs. Vibration Dampener
28oz Flywheel vs. 28oz Imbalance Flywheel (the flywheel doesn't weigh 1lb., 12 oz.)

thefactoryfiveforum vs. factoryfiveforum.com

However, if your job is delivering ordnance on target, and you didn't understand, you DO need to check the firing order!!
Just sayin' ;) ;)

Don't forget to take some food for the shaft seal.
I don't know why, but "dizzy" for distributor bugs me.

Wow. Bringing back memories. Here is my favorite.
They would send new torpedomen to the engine room with full hazmat gear and a bucket to get "reactor water" so they could test fire a "nuclear water slug". We would fill it with condensate water (nice and warm) and proceed to spill it all over them, step back and say "Oh, my GOD!"

Engine or Motor?
Originally "engine" meant character, mental powers, talent, intellect, or cleverness. It had nothing to do with electric motors or internal combustion engines. Prior to the widespread adoption of gasoline and diesel engines, the word “engine” was used to describe things like apparatuses for catching game, nets, traps and decoys, according to Fuller.
Instrument Panel or Dash Board?
A dash board was a piece of wood that kept mud and debris from splashing on stagecoach drivers.
Battery
Battery was originally pounding a fortified wall or fortress, then became is a unit of artillery. The extension to "electrical cell" came from Ben Franklin, perhaps from the artillery sense of "discharges" of electricity. In Middle English, bateri meant only "forged metal ware." In obsolete baseball jargon battery was the word for "pitcher and catcher" considered as a unit (1867, originally only the pitcher). Hence the term "batter."
Tire
Was originally tyre, and meant "attire" iron plates forming a rim of a carriage wheel.
Brake
Is a handle or lever.

Fun fact as long as we are on service announcements.
The Mk14 torpedo was a horrible weapon, and did it's best to help the Japanese win the war.
Enjoy!

The oil pans are from Aviaid, NOT Aviad (‘cept mine, I got mine from Armando, replica pan for a replica Daytona!)
Why is “bbl” the abbreviation for barrel on carbs? That one has always bugged me!
There are only 6 original Daytona coupes! The Willment, though built by John Olsen, is a British copy and is different enough to me that it should not be counted. The real Type 65 Daytona is just not a good-looking car!!! I’m sorry Peter but, even though there’s beauty in function and the big-block Type 65 Daytona is fast, compared to CSX2287 and all of her sisters, CSB3064 is just ugly.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone!!! And NO, it’s NOT X-mas!!!!!!!

FFR? FF5? My vin says F5R.
Mine two.
Although I positively have a break pedal and not a brake peddle. They somehow connect to my rotors (not rotas) and stop my tires and not my tyres, unless, of course I just drove to Australia. Of the two sets of tires, the rears are uge.
Yesterday I told my dad a story about fishing in the elevator.
Then we went to the park to watch the sun go down on our bikes.
I don't want to hijack this thread and make it about grammer. I'm just glad I have a driver license. And if it weren't for my Bachelors in Science degree, I wouldn't have a good enough job to pay for the Cobra in the first place!
