My phone and wallet fit nicely in the door pocket (thanks Herb) or in the Cubbyhole when I want them hidden (Thanks Breeze). But I didn’t have a good way to mount the phone for navigation and it was sliding all over the place when I put it on the center console. To avoid a permanent mount I searched for a long time for one that fit my needs. I found it! For you guys that installed the center dash support, this thing is perfect!

Yeah, mine usually teleports itself behind the seat when shifting to 2nd.

That must be the reason there are an average of 22 in every new vehicle today.
Mount a rare earth magnet behind the dash, where ever there is space, and put a thin piece of steel in the back of the telephone case. Just lay the phone up against the dash without anyone knowing the magnet is ever there. It could also hang down below the bottom edge of the dash if you wanted.
If you wanted the phone on an angle make up an angled bracket and set it up on the cowling with the same concept of using a magnet. Use some kind of thin fabric like the dash material to keep from scratching the cowling.
Or make a bracket that comes down from the bottom bent edge of the dash and angle it anyway you wanted.
Personally, I like the idea on the cowling as you can keep your eyes close to, on the road, while reflecting over to the Map occassionally.
I'm just rambling on here;) but this might get someone started on some ideas, George

I use a suction cup mount under the dash with a magnetic head. The mount comes with a couple thin plates that you put between the back of the phone and the cover. I have hidden USB ports under the dash as well so I use a very short charge cable so there are no wires hanging.

I only know the letters a bit, I have to check they are correct for nav identification at work.

Nice idea with the suction cup. I did the same with a dual 12v port under the dash. I plug a retractable charge cord into that.

Yup, same here. I installed a USB plug under the dash. Now I plug the phone into it and have a "leash" on the phone. Easy retrieval!

The hidden magnet is a nice idea for this purpose, George.

I have a phone tray with a magnetic base. Under the carpet is a sheet of 1/8 steel. Same system is used for my cup holders.
BUT A WARNING when using a magnet:
If the steel is not thick enough to absorb the magnetic field, the magnet will mess with your phone. Thickness of the steel depends on the strength of the magnet . I have a 1/4 inch thick steel between my magnets and the phone YMMV.
I've got a cubby and USB port, but still looking at options on the mounting for GPS. Maybe suction cups for the windshield or cowling?

Edit: See how well the cubby works keeping the phone in place during this high-banked turn.

That’s true on the magnet interference and I suspect the compass feature on an iPhone would be useless no matter the thickness of the metal plate.

That cubby is really nice! You could run a retractable cord through the back of the cubby to hide it too.
I like the grey carpet too.

I'm very happy with this little magnetic phone mount. I stuck it to the door hinge with the adhesive that was on one side. There is a magnet on the other side of the ball that swivels. The magnet has no effect on the phone. Holds the phone down low and keeps it from sliding around. I ran a charging cord through my door so I can keep it plugged in.

Best of all, when the phone is not attached, you don't see the mount at all.

Ha! I had your mod in mind when I started this thread, unfortunately I had seen this years ago and couldn’t remember who did it. I should have guessed as your build thread is probably the first I saw in detail before I even received my kit. Nice job and good to hear about the magnet.

When I built my car and decided on Fitech, the unit came with a clamp mount that suction cups to the body or glass. I decided I didn't want anything above the cowl line, so I came up with something else. I took a 1 inch square piece of aluminum and drilled holes in the ends that would accept the end of the flexible fitech mount as well as a flexible phone mount. I cross drilled and tapped both holes and also cross drilled the ends of the flex rods ( I have no idea what they are called). Once I had both ends drilled and prepped, I drilled the cross tube under the dash and installed nutserts and bolted that thing in place. Now, when I'm driving, I can set my Fitech display up to what I want to monitor and on the drivers side, I have the flexible phone mount there to hold my phone. I also have a dual USB charge port hidden under the dash for power. I tried to take a pic of my set up. No pic of the block as my dash is a rats nest up there.

Good work.
I’m with you on that, I did the firewall-forward mod and with the extra room I didn’t try very hard to clean up the wiring behind the dash.

Nice thing about being a bit older is that I keep my eyes on the road and the other cars especially when going fast, and the phone can sit in the dash cubby or the glove box until I stop.

Love that Dual lock Mark, I used it behind the dash to hold it on without screws, works great and dash is removable.

I couldn’t agree more with not looking at the phone while driving especially for communication, but like the nav in our daily drivers I wanted the ability to see navigation without searching for, activating and holding the device.

I used the Arkon phone mount carriage. I like the ease and ability to squeeze the sides to hold different size phones. However I mounted the phone carriage to a Ram Mount with 1" ball system. The Ram Mounts are very versatile and adjustable. I have suction cups, clamps, different size arms, and attachments. Its a bulky system but my car is a daily driver so I have one or two cup holders, a phone holder, and my EFI controller attached to the center dash support tubes. and if I go to a car show or just want to declutter, I just take them off in a matter of seconds.

If you have cup holders, i found a great solution! I used the weathertech cell phone cup holder. I did a little modification to the base so it fits snug. It's titled just under the dash (shaded) so I can see it on sunny days. It's perfect for navigation and changing stations when using bluetooth... all within finger reach.

It looks like you had a similar adaptation using the dash support bars. It looks too like that cockpit has seen some serious travels. I'll look up the Ram mount cup holder.

I initially avoided the cup holders, but that makes for a verify versatile option, very clean!
