Im going to get my hood repainted. But before I do, I need to correct the problem of the hood stops rubbing off the paint. The hood does not rest tight on the bumpers. what setup do you have?

Easy, tighten the hood latches so it doesn't vibrate and move around.

are your hood stops soft or hard?

I haven't installed it yet, but I purchased 5'0" of this stuff to use as bumpers for my bumpers on my hood.

My car is in paint so I don't know if it will work or not.
I also ordered other weather stripping from them for my doors too.

One question I have. If you are using the bulb seal, do you need those hard rubber stops? My old car had bulb seal all around the hood opening and didn't move with the hood latches closed. My new car will have the same bulb seal once I find an air cleaner and element that fits inside the hood scoop and under it as well.

When Jeff reassembled my car after he painted it, He used a different type of weather strip in the hood and trunk openings and reduced the rubber stops to just one. He also replaced all the wavy washers in my hood hinges and there isn't any of the loose, wiggly feel in them now.

Papa Dave,

Do you think this is what Jeff used?

I've got 10'0" of this stuff coming too.

Steve,

I'm pretty sure he uses this stuff from Breeze:

It looks pretty close to what you linked.

I have been using a similar product, would have to go measure it to see if it is the same size. It is full perimeter with no bump stops. Hood does not vibrate, no problems for a long time, and the seal still looks fresh. I can't remember how long it has been on the car. Also used on the doors and trunk lid.

McMaster has the same stuff.

Mc Master Carr…..5/8 wide, 5/16 tall. Hollow D self adhesive weatherstrip. Two short bumpers at the back of the hood about the outer edge of your stripes. I don't go around the front because the jamb isn't deep enough on the MK4 and it makes the hood proud in the front. I start about 5" back on the sides pretty much even with the back leg of the hinge with the hood open...da Bat

I just used the bulb seal and no stops. I dont really notice the hood moving around much. I periodically use Gummi Pflege rubber care on car seals to keep them lubed and from creaking, especially on BMW's

The seal I used for the hood and doors on Papa Dave’s car came from Mike Everson. You might save a few pennies buying from McMaster or Steele {{EDIT: See below, you won't!}} but I like to support the guys like Mike who have helped our community for years.

I agree completely and ordered recently a licence plate mount and steering wheel bezel from him.
