The pivots on the upper control arm cross shaft (2 per side) are VERY crucial, especially on your generation car. Be sure that you're pushing grease through and out of them.

I had made a video showing my fitting locations: I counted 20
Maybe this will help.

What DadofThree said.

20 sounds about right with zerks in your drive shaft.

Definitely read Jeff's post #5 above. This is an issue with the earlier cars . . .

Agree, This is a big deal because when I was building the car had a dead Zerk. No grease was getting into the wearing surface. Only way to be sure is to pump some through & wipe off the excess as it comes out of the joint.

Failure of this part cab cause you to lose control of the car.

Not to change the subject, but have you got any pictures of your car? I really like the fender stripes and am considering them for mine.

Very nice! The platform is cool too. Any historical significance on the fender stripes or did you just like the way they looked?

sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread...back to grease zerks.

The ramps I made to get under the car work really good. Raises it about 15" up.

Hello GTBradley
I'm the 3rd owner of the car and did not choose the color or strips. But I would not have it anyother way I love them!
I've heard the strips on the fender means "rookie" on the race track. This alerts other drivers (while racing) the driver is not very experienced.

The fender stripes are known as FIA stripes. They were first used on a Cobra (CSX2128) at the 1963 Sebring FIA race. The stripes were painted on 2128 to distinguish it form the other team Cobras (all black painted body's) that were racing. The color chosen for 2128 was yellow

normal size grease gun tip is not fitting inside the u-joint to grease these two Zerks. What have y'all done to get it greased?

I have the old style upper control arms. I had a squeak once, and found that I had one starting to gall. I was able to polish it up and it has been fine ever since. However, I now add this to my annual nut and bolt before autocross season starts. It doesn't take long and doesn't mess up your alignment. It's probably overkill, but gives me peace of mind.

Jack the car up and take off the front wheels.
Remove the front bolt that attaches the A-arm to the pivot.
Slightly loosen the rear A-arm bolt.
Swing the whole suspension assembly back just enough to pull the A-arm out of the pivot. If it won't move by hand, use the steering wheel.
Swivel the pivot with your fingers. If it doesn't move easily or feels gritty, take the nut off, clean, and grease it.
Put that one back and put the bolt in but don't tighten all the way.
Repeat for the rear.
Torque everything down. I use new grade 8 stover nuts.

If you ever hear a squeak in the front, don't mess around.

If you have some angle on the drive shaft, rotate it so the grease fitting opening is the most open.
good luck,

broke one of the grease zerks today. Off to Auto Zone to get a replacement but need to know if it's metric or SAE? Does anyone know?

18 total for me! I use a salt-water rated marine grease. Use it on everything except bearings.

I replaced one of my straight zerk fittings for a 90*; I seem to recall it being a 1/4"-28.

On a somewhat related note, I just bought a LockNLube fitting for my grease gun. That thing is awesome.

They do make needles for the grease gun tip. You just push the needle into the center ball and insert grease.

If you own a grease gun, do yourself a favor and get one of these. The only thing worse then grease squiring out around the nozzle is when you can't get the nozzle off of the zerk. This fixes both of those issues.

I also have replaced several zerks so the angles make life easier.

They make a narrow end for your grease gun, NAPA, has them or a needle.
