We are ready to pull the body back off of the Type 65 Coupe to take to the Body Shop...

Does anyone have Plans / Dimensions / Drawings etc. of how to build a Cradle for the Body and Hood?

Thanks!

Not sure if this will help at all, but I HAVE seen in some posts on this forum a "buck" (that's what I'd call it, knowing nothing) someone made out of plywood that fit under the body. Surely someone else will answer you better as to where this is.

we don't use a cradle for the coupes like the roadsters. Most of the coupes are painted body on the frame and all the body work fitting and alignment is done on the frame. For storage I used 2 2x4's fromed in a "V" to suport the body under the roof by the doors, takes the weight off the pontoons. The hood is stored standing on the back edge.

I have completed bodywork and I am moving toward paint in my garage. There are so many edges that would be difficult to get to with the body on the frame. I know it can be done, but I don't trust that I will do a good job. I foresee difficulties trying to get all the body edges inside the cockpit. I can see myself reaching in to paint those at awkward angles and dragging the air hose across fresh paint or overspray something. The engine bay edges would be very difficult too(pontoon/cowl). At least with the body off, I can put it in a better position and crawl into the cockpit(and engine bay) from the front of the body. The downside is that it can be tricky to get everything back on and fitted as well as it was when the bodywork was completed. There are so many variables. It seems like you just mark your positioning and reassemble in the same spot, but it doesn't happen as easily as you would think. I haven't built anything yet, but I plan on building something that supports across the underside of the front and the rear part of the roof. I plan on supporting the rear end with something up under where the hatch latches. I bet experienced painters have tricks up their sleeves for things like this?? I am open to someone changing my mind. So, all bodywork on the frame with the hood. I pulled the hood to do a good job on the underside of the nose. I am preparing to spray 2k urethane primer. I haven't decided if I will put the body back on for fine sanding prior to paint. I have things pretty dialed in so maybe not. Then base/cear and back on for the remainder.

This is what my painter did. Hood is sitting on two saw horses. Body is sitting on a wood frame supported under the roof and the side sills/pontoons.

Hope that helps!

Just built a buck yesterday. I made it simple so I could climb under and in if necessary. The body is stable. I added the braces for the rear of the body to support a little of the weight. Moving toward 2k primer soon.

I built mine with 2x4s and put wheels on one end so I could move them like a wheelbarrow.

Also, have you done all the fitting of doors and windows etc. on the frame? It doesn't look like it.
