It looks like my 6r80 is going to contact the frame about 3” too close. Not afraid to do some cutting and welding, but no need to reinvent the wheel. For those of you with a 6r80 transmission, how did you modify the frame to get it to fit? (In a truck kit by the way, but essentially the same frame)126740126741

I can't seem to find a photo of the installed trans mount, but here are the pieces:126747
No frame mods required other than grinding down some welds a bit. I did have to bevel the back edges of the bracket I made and of the bolt-in FFR trans support bracket so they would slide a bit further back in the chassis. I used the trans vibration isolator that came with the kit and got the correct pinion angle without using any spacers.
I did find a photo that was focused on the shifter support I built, but you can see the isolator bracket if you look closely enough: 126748 I'll try to get a better photo of the installed mount next time I'm out in the garage. HTH Keith HR #894

I just looked closer at the second photo after I posted this, and I see that the bracket / isolator wasn't installed. Must have taken this photo while I was developing the shifter support frame. Sorry!

The car is up on the lift so I couldn't get the greatest photos, but these should prove that the 6R80 fits in the chassis using the FFR provided trans mount (driveshaft removed for clarity).

Is that a gen 1 or 2 chassis?

Gen 1. Don't know if that area is any different on the Gen 2 chassis...

Any chance you have the dimensions of TNT l the 6R80? Im trying to find width length and height?

Please forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what "TNT" is...

Sorry, phone texting/typing usually kicks my butt with the auto text feature. Asking for the dimensions of the transmission, trying to determine if I could get the 6r80 in the mk4.

I understand that Bob Cowan (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/member.php?822-Bob-Cowan) has a 6R80 in his MK 4. I don't know if he has a build thread, but he's active on the forum and can probably answer your questions better than I.

Since I had the car up on the lift, I thought a photo from below might be useful. Keith

His car is a BDR and I talked with him a few weeks ago.

Thanks thou.

Any chance you can measure the width of the tranny, bottom and top?

The transmission has a more or less hemispherical bell housing that is about 16" diameter, with a bulge on the PS for the starter motor that sticks out about 3" more at roughly the 4 o'clock position.

The cross section of the rest of the trans is similar to a slice of Wonder Bread - rounded on top with flat sides and bottom. The width of the pan flange is about 12", and there are casting ribs and other features that stick out of the sides that are almost that wide so you'll need that space all the way up.

The top of the trans case is tapered slightly from front to back, but is approximately 14" tall on average (11" from flange to top, 3" from flange to the bottom of "well" in the pan.)

The overall length from the front of the bell housing to the face of the tailshaft is (very approximately) 27".

Please understand that these are rough measurements, made with limited access using a tape measure and eyeball - but I tried to err on the side of being too big. HTH Keith

Mine fit different than y’all a. My pan was resting on the factory five frame mounts when at the 3* angle required. I just cut the whole mount off the frame and made my own. It’s all in my build thread and in a 6r80 thread that’s floating around here somewhere.

Edit: here is the thread with my details. https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?27836-A-prototype-6R80-trans-mount-and-crossmember
