Good evening FFR forum! I'm going to pick up some lumber tomorrow to build a new bench to add to my shop for the upcoming build. While I am picking up lumber I thought I would get enough to build a 'caddy' or whatever you call it (I'm sure there is a real name to it) to put the body on so it's not sitting on the floor or ground while I work on the chassis. Does anyone have some kind of build plan, or do you know the dimensions? I think it should be pretty simple, but if I had the dimensions it would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance!!

Roger

Roger, Here is 2 pics of what I use. I have a universal base that I use for 33's, 35's, GTM, 818's and Type 65's. I make the rest out of scrap wood and scrap carpet. The front to back is 60" the front part is a mimic of the top firewall and is 42" wide . The back fits between the rear of the cockpit and trunk opening and is 32" wide. Height is up to you. Hope this helps.

Roger, hello and welcome to the club! If you are a welder you can build a stand very easily. I built this one in about 45 minutes using some steel and casters I had laying around. Works really well, its light and the wheels make it easy to move. Its also easy to store when not in use. Wish I would have had some casters that locked however. Ray

Sorry, don't have a better photo of the dolly I made. The one I made works for the chassis or the body and the length telescopes to make it longer if needed. My first iteration was 24" taller which worked great for the chassis but not so much for the body so I modified it to lower it. I was a welder / fabricator by trade so most everything I make is out of steel or aluminum but a wood dolly would work as well. But don't cheap out on the wheels -- get higher load rating casters with large diameter wheels made of hard durometer material that lock. You can save the casters for the next project.

Here's another tip: store your body parts outside in the sun & elements before you start the body work.

Love it Seth! I can see how it would make a good bedroom fixture as well.... a little snug width wise for two though...

I love it!!! That is the funniest thing I've seen in a long while. I love how your daughter(?) looks like she doesn't even notice it - it's totally normal having a body in the dining room!

Good stuff guys! Thanks for the feedback - BTW, my wife said, "no way" to putting it in the dining room. :)

I'm sure in there somewhere is a story about how the body was maneuvered into the house and into the dining room.:D

Honestly, no. The front door to my house had double French doors and I could open it up wide. The dining room was in the front of the house and we don’t buy dining room furniture. Therefore it becomes storage. My wife and I move about every three years with her job and we have a lean existence. She couldn’t have cared less and it was a nice safe place.
