As some of you may know, we have and continue to build some pretty crazy builds with all sorts of modern amenities (electronic and otherwise). Anyway we're in the process of developing a chassis control system for our builds that does pretty much everything from push button start to heated and cooled seats, electric door operators, etc. We previously purchased 3rd party security systems, but as almost any modern car already come with these, we have not had good luck in sourcing a security system that does what we want without unacceptable trade offs. As we scope this out, it struck us that others might be interested in a wireless security system.

Our initial design would include a very small radio receiver module that would need to be mounted anywhere that is line of sight to the keyfob in someones pocket...not behind sheet metal. The receiver is approximately 20mm x 20mm x 5mm with a small 5 x 22 awg cable exiting the bottom. The key fob is, well a key fob without buttons. Walk into range and the receiver outputs a signal that can power a relay that can enable engine start, unlock doors, pretty much anything you might want. Walk away from the car and everything is disabled.

Question is does this appeal to anyone but me and if so how would you like it to behave, perform? If everyone thinks this is a dumb idea, that okay.

Oh, very important, we think we can sell this profitably for $150-175.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The problem is, there's not much on a Cobra to "power". No door locks, no windows, no power seats, no power sunroof, and with a manual you don't want it auto-starting in-gear. A perimeter alarm is the only thing I can think of, to keep the public out of your cockpit and away from you sunglasses, GPS, etc. And possibly kill all power when you walk away.
Maybe I'm missing something.

I absolutely get it. Ours has all kinds power stuff and that is very atypical. We typically have electric door operators, power windows on our coupe builds, push button start stop, etc. Only thing that would be of possible value for many builders would be push button start/stop. I appreciate your feedback.

Would be interesting with a 2 way alarm.
So many times we have to park and leave our car outside, but will within RF range to know when something happens in the car.
Maybe 4-6 relays for electric poppers for the doors and hatch on coupe, a horn honk to remind someone they are somewhere they should not be.

I had a similar unit on my Harley V-rod. No power systems on it, start stop and a motion sensing alarm. Digital Guard Dog I think was the brand. I loved it, no fumbling in my pockets for the keys. Grab the fob on the way out the door and I was good for the day!

Chris, This would be a great product. I know I would buy it. As stated by Higgy, HD has these type systems on their bikes.
