I'm getting my Coyote Crate engine custom tuned in May with Lund Racing. At this point I have been running 110 octane non-Oxygenated gas for the little go karting I have done and getting thing running overall. Lund wants to know what I will be using going forward before they do the tune. Just thought I would ask some forum members what they have used without any issues. I'd really like to back down to a premium level of gas but also am not sure about ethanol blends etc. I never use ethanol in my small engines but not sure about this one.

Thanks,

Gary Anderson

I'd say just go for Premium/91/93 depending on your area. You'll be getting more power tuned with 91 than untuned with 110. Since the Gen 3's have direct injection it should be less prone to detonate anyway with the cylinder and charge cooling provided. With E85 and DI you'll be able to get the timing much closer to MBT at higher loads but that will depend on availability too.

And what do all the new cars run? EVERY new car is designed and build to run using ethanol fuel.

I had mine, Gen 1, tuned for what I get at the pump, 93 octane, may contain up to 10% ethanol. The ECU has the ability to add or pull ign timing for variations. I doubt it can pull timing from 110 octane to 91 octane. I do not know the extremes of the timing range.

I told them 91/93 ethanol blended fuel. What every station sells. That's what Ford designed it for and it's fine. The only exception would be if you wanted to set it up for E85. Possible to get a little more power out of it. But several reasons why that's not interesting to me. Forget about the 110 gas.
