Are the lower tail lights wired as parking lights and turn signal lights? Or, just turn signal? If both, I need to splice from uppers?

From a post I saved from Jeff Kleiner:

In the rear:
The Ron Francis harness is set up so that all 4 lamps are illuminated for tail lights with one on each side used for brake lights and the other on each side used for turn signals. I prefer to orient them so that the uppers are brake lights for better visibility. When using that configuration:

---Tan harness wire at each corner is for tail lights and will go to the low element on all four light assemblies via the red/yellow lamp wire.

---Purple harness wire at each corner is for brake lights and will go to the bright element on the upper light assembly per side via the green lamp wire.

---Yellow harness wire on the driver's side is for left turn and goes to the bright element on the lower light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---White harness wire on the passenger side is for right turn and goes to the bright element on the lower light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Black wire on all joins with the black harness ground.

In front:

---Tan harness wire at each corner is for the amber parking/running lights and will go to the low element on both light assemblies via the red/yellow lamp wire.

---Dark green harness wire on the driver's side is for left turn and goes to the bright element on the light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Light blue harness wire on the passenger side is for right turn and goes to the bright element on the light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Black wire on both joins with the black harness ground.

If you do that you don't need any stinking pictures!

That's perfect. I think others will also find this very useful in the future as well.

I'm happy to help. Just keep in mind as you wire the tail lights that you want to be able to remove them if needed. I initially wired them where the tan and black wires were tied together on the lamp side and that won't allow you to remove the lamps without cutting the wires. I made pig tails for the tan and black wires on the harness side so that each lamp has it's own plug connecting it to the harness. The diagram shows it like this for the tan wires, but not the black wires. This is also just one simple way to wire the lights. Others have gotten fancier and made both lamps work for the brake lights, but I don't have a diagram for that configuration.

I do . . .

I have that diagram to make both rear lights work as both Brake and Turn Signal . . . can be done with a "trailer adapter" but in my opinion, relays are more reliable (going by previous forum posts about issues).

Relays also allow you to use this circuit with four round rear lights or the popular rectangular lights - works with standard 1157 bulbs or LED's (electronic flasher needed for LED's).

Its available to anyone that wants to use this configuration . . .

side note: since RatShack is pretty much history (on-line only) this circuit can be built with four Bosch relays instead of the RS dual relays but the dual relays are still available from other sources.

From a post I saved from Jeff Kleiner:

Laughed my A off over this post this morning. I saved these directions when I first read this some weeks ago. I went to look for it this morning and spent nearly an hour trying to figure out two things. Where did I save the file? I couldn't find it on the computer anywhere. But I did find a file I did not recognize named "In The Rear." Sounded perverse and I knew it wasn't mine. So I deleted it without opening, ran all the anti-virus stuff on all the computers, changed all the passwords. Then, when finally getting back to hunting this down on the forum again, I notice that the first three words of Jeff's Directions are "In the Rear." I must have just hit save and it named the file accordingly. LOL

LOLOLOL!!!

Just one more version. I chose to drive the tag light from the tail light out of the "LIU". Works for me.

Just my experience, may not fit all brake combinations.

I run the standard Ron Frances harness supplied by FFR. Initial set up since 2014. Regular tail/stop/signal/hazard functions Standard FFR two prong flashers one for Stop & one for Hazards.

A few years in to get brighter lights went to LEDS in the rear for tail/brake/hazard/signal functions & left the standard bulbs in the front. Functions for all lights were normal without any wiring changes or additional parts.

A few weeks ago one of the 4 tail lights failed in signal/stop/hazard mode.

Decided to replace the two standard bulbs up front with LEDS when I replaced the tail light. Bought LED's for the rear bulb that had burned out at & the two front marker/turn/hazard bulbs in front. All four worked but one of the rears was week in brake/signal/flasher.

Added a pair of these flashers into the system, CEC Industries EF32RL Flasher from Amazon,

The wire goes to ground & all the bulbs seem to be doing what they are supposed to do.
