This trip that we are all on has many chapters and I'm thinking this build has gotten a life of it's own. I'm not ready (or ever will be) for graduation. The trip started (chapter 1)in March of 2009 with a visit to FFR. After a quick tour I laid my money down. Delivery date June 2009 (chapter 2) "the build". Living in upstate NY there really is a small oportunity to work of these cars after oct / nov. So, given that there are appoximately 7 good months to build, I figure the build to paint stage took 10 months of weekends and vacation time.
Chapter 3 "Body Finish". Last March '11 I made the pilgramage to Metal Morphous and had lunch with Ron and Renee Randall. Well, long store short, I trailered my baby to Ct. for body and paint (as you can see by the photo's, great job) in May. Ron was in the process of moving his shop and I had the priviledge of being his first project in the new facility.
Chapter 4 "Home again". The roadster was back home for memorial day weekend, registered and tagged by July 4th.
I can go on and on and will some day, but for now i feel my build has gone public and we both feel much better.
There are many thanks to be shared but I will limit it to Dave Smith and the FFR crew for exceptional race car foundation upon which I built a '65 Roadster.

I would also thank all the forium members for there help and direction.

Great job Ralph! You going to bring it down to FL for the winter months? Prime driving is right around the corner for us here! Had ours out last weekend for the first time in two months!

Ah, gotcha! I thought you might be one of our snow-birds! We have a few that ship their cars down each year and enjoy an extended/year round driving season...

From one (ex) New Yorker to another, congrats again!

Alan,

Florida is a small hamlet (Jimmy Stirr fame for all you Polka fans) just south of Goshen. Goshen NY is the first site for paramutual betting in the US. Mostly horse country and the home of the trotta hall of fame.

Jspa,

Thanks for your cudos. The house has her garages (3.5). I have the Barn (32'x 42'). The only stipulation in building the "cave" was that my wife got the loft for "stuff" that doesn't fit in the house (3,000sq ft w/ 3.5 car garage). Got to keep her happy.:)

Florida NY brings back good memories. I grew up in Warwick and worked at Rudy Automotive selling parts during high school and while I started college. Also interesting is my Mom worked for many years at the Hall of Fame of the Trotter. Small world.

Great looking car and property. I was born in Seneca Falls, NY and still have many fond memories of that part of country. I should be getting my MKIV delivered next week and am looking forward to documenting my build. Good Job!

hey nick,

Having and riden Harley's for more years than I care to admit it has always been the journey not the destination. Building your MkIV will be much of the same experience. My roadster is completely legal and 99% complete but I am sure that last 1% will take years. Enjoy the feeling of knowing that this piece of "art work" was brought to life by you. Almost as cool as having my kids (almost).

Good luck and have fun.

Ralph

Harleys, you too? I've got mine sitting in the garage wanting me to drive her since the weather has gone down below a hundred. I feel like I'm cheating on her waiting for the mistress to come home. My build will be special to me as my youngest child, 30 year old boy, will be around to help and be part of it all. He's wanting a GTM himself but the new baby on the way will delay that for a while.
