Hey Gang,
Upol Raptor Bed Liner > Has Anybody Used It For Fender Spats On Their Roadsters?
I'll be coating the back side of my body before it goes off to paint and was thinking about possibly doing some old Porsche 911 Style spats with the stuff.
Has anybody done it yet or will I be the 1st Guinea Pig?
Steve
The car is going to the paint booth in about 2.5 weeks.
Steve, can't comment directly on your question but I have some great experience with this stuff and even planning to use it on my rear fenders once it's time to repaint them. The front tires kick rocks onto the leading edge of the rear fenders on my hot rod.
I used it on my hot rod body in the interior and it works great on fiberglass. My buddy that owns a custom car shop (builds fiberglass replicas of 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyders and restores muscle cars) uses it on inner fender wells and other areas that tend to get road rash. It has worked well for him over the years and can be painted.
I’ve also used it on aluminum toolboxes /cabinets with good results -- coating the aluminum eliminates the aluminum oxide transfer to everything stored in these boxes. It should work well for your intended use but I suggest you use the spray applicator for best results. From my experience the stuff is easy to use, very durable as you would expect, and adheres well to fiberglass.
Lets us know how it works for you.

I use plasidip peal-able coating. Just yank it off when it gets ugly and respray!

Steve, I have used the Upol Raptor on the underside of the body, splash guards, and undercarriage. I love the stuff. I think it would work well as fender spats. And easy to re-apply if it starts to wear out. In fact, maybe I'll do that!

I agree that product is outstanding. I have a bunch on my new Coupe build, including the interior headliner. I haven't used it outside the body, but both my front and rear splash guards (upper and lower in the front) have a thick coating and turned out great. I think it would excellent for fender spats if that's the look you want. I doubt very much you would wear it out. That stuff is tough.

Thanks for your opinions gang.
I may spray the body (Rear Fender Spat Area) with some black primer this weekend to see how they would look.
Of course I'd sand them off so that the car can be painted, which should only be a couple of weeks away.
Currently I'm Gapping the panels and cleaning up the wheel wells to get them looking proper.
