Guys, I just recently retired from the Army. Looking to get in a 33 Rod. My question is what is the best donor car? I’m a fan of the HP and weight of the LS engines. So I’m reaching out to you all and see what was the easy platforms were used. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Jay,
Thanks for your sacrifice and service and welcome the forum! The 33 does not use a donor because the front suspension and steering are one off. You’ll need a rearend, tranny and motor harness to go along with your LS motor. I believe you can still by the Hotrod in stages though.

May want to give BluePrint Engines a call about the Eng/Trans. You can start at www.factoryfiveengines.com And then follow that up with a call to Johnny.
Welcome home soldier! What do you plan to do with the car? Have you considered a non-donor build?

From one vet to another Thank you. I went with an old school chevy small block, 350 4 bolt main with a single Edelbrock AVS carb. For the transmission if your going automatic I went with a 700r4 overdrive with no electronics. The easiest rear is a Ford 8.8, mine came out of an 89 mustang with limited slip. I upgraded the axles and added disc brakes.

Like RBBJ, my pal David went with a Small Block Chevy with 700R4 behind it.
No electronics, 100% old school except for the MSD ignition system.
His entire package came form Blue Print Engines and he went with their 400 since he wanted to stay in front of me.
It looks very good in the chassis especially since he did a great job of hiding the wiring in the engine bay.
It Dynoed At 517 HP, so it is a tire shredder.
