I came across a couple of vintage dash plaques during the winter and just added them to my dash. I'm in the midwest, so these compliment the '65 Road America tech sticker I have on the roll hoop really nice and lend a cool back-in-the-day vibe to the car.

Would love to see if others have these sort of things on their car and hear the story behind them.

Look good will see if there are any NC based ones around. :D. Can you tell me about the grips on your steering wheel?

Hey Kevin -

The wrap on my steering wheel is waxed cotton cord that I bought at a hobby shop after seeing something similar on a vintage racer. From what I can tell through a bit of research, it was a common technique to do back in the early days (not necessarily the '60s) to protect the driver's hands when wrestling with a wheel during endurance races. I saw one on a car at Road America and asked the owner how he did it without any visible tie-off points and he just smiled and told me I'd have to figure that out on my own. As we walked away, my wife laughed and said that's because he didn't do it.

I practiced with some regular twine until I had a method that worked, then just wrapped it on a warm day so that the cord could be pulled tight. It's been on there for 8 years or so and through 14,000 miles on the road with no signs of loosening, wear, or dirt.

Chris-

I really like these; of course, I like everything about your car! However, these are a good find, and look great on your dash!

Thanks for sharing.

Regards,

Steve
