I don't know anything about woodworking...
What should I seal my front splitter with to keep it from swelling/rotting? I think it's maple. I'd prefer gloss black but I can probably spray paint over the sealer? Top surface will probably be carbon fiber skinned. Thanks!

Rounded under the front edge.

If you really want to seal it I would use epoxy that is used for sealing wooden canoes and kayaks. Raka in Florida is a supplier for it. Put 2 coats on it and then scuff it and you can paint it black.

Then if you really want to strengthen it add a couple of layers of woven fiberglass fabric. This is how we make our race splitters. Also, if you are going to do a carbon wrap on top, just do it all at the same time. Want to make everything really tight? Vacuum bag it.
