My Dad died last night at Rhode Island hospital. He contracted the coronavirus and was 82 years old. I have no ability to write anything that would begin to describe the life of the greatest man I ever knew. Tom Smith was raised in Whitehall, Michigan where our family is from. He was a Naval Officer, a successful businessman, a family man, and later in life a deacon who dedicated his time to hospice ministry. In my entire life I never heard him utter a swear word. Not once. He was the most literate man I've ever known and he taught me everything that was important in life. A man cannot have had a better father. He is now with my mum in heaven. Many of you in the Factory Five community knew him and I wanted you to know.

Dave,

My sincere condolences on the passing of your father. I know he was a tremendous influence in your life, and it's a testimony to the character of the man that he raised you as his son.

May God grant in His mercy a place for your dad in his Kingdom, until in His time you are reunited.

God Bless you and your whole family.

Hug those around you today. Let them remind you of the love they have for you, just as you love your father. And take comfort that God has the same love for your father, you and everyone you know.

I'm at a loss for words, which is almost never.
He was obviously a man of great faith.
Know that he is with God in heaven.

This is terrible news to read. My thoughts are with you and your family. We keep hearing of drugs that show great promise, yet so many are succumbing to this virus. I wish these drugs could have made a difference for your dad, may he rest in peace.

Dave, so sorry for your loss. You were truly lucky to have such a great man as a father. I have a similar father, the only time he ever cursed was while he was helping me remove an axle from my Chevelle when I was in college. Without thinking he grabbed the slide hammer above the stop and slid the weight with all his might into the webspace between his thumb and index finger. Even then he cursed under his breath with his teeth clenched.

Dave... I met your Mom and Dad years ago on the ferry to Orient Point after an Open House. They were both very down to earth and easy just to talk with. My warmest thoughts for you and your family at this horrific time in our country. I have always believed, it is a very thin curtain between this life and the next. The reason is very simple, the innocent love in your heart that you hold for your Mom and Dad as they do for you is the key. They will always be there for you, always. With Warm Regards Bill B.

After watching Dave's video description of the legal history of FFR, you can see the strong influence of his dad on Dave's own final response to the legal battle. Well done to both father and son.

Dave my condolences but as you think about the values your parents demonstrated they showed that not just knowing about God but knowing him and the assurances of an eternal life that far outstrips our imagination. 1 Corinthians 9, 10 says it best. What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him -- these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searched everything, even the depths of God. The rest of the chapter is a marvelous description of the person that by faith has accepted the offer from God. The great exchange! My sinful self for His righteousness that was first credited to Abraham in Genesis.
